Aelin of the wildfire. Aelin and Rowan were out in the forest beyond Terrasen practicing her magic. They had arrived in Terrasen about a week ago and she had reclaimed her birthright- the manor that had once been her home. It still felt as though she was a different person now, a different person in a different life. Although this life was infinitely better with Rowan at her side, even if he was currently throwing ice daggers at her. She didn't mind though, her shield appeared every time exactly in the right place.

"I think that's enough for now," Rowan panted.

Aelin smiled at him, taunting him with a slight show of her teeth.

He laughed, and in a flash of light he was a hawk flapping in circles around her. Aelin closed her eyes, oh how she wished she could change shape sometimes. She shut her eyes tight and concentrated, letting her fire rise up and case her in a cocoon. She knew she did not have a shape shifters heart and yet she desperately wanted to soar with Rowan. She let her magic wrap around her, seeping into her body through every pore, at first there was only searing pain as she wished her magic to burn away her Fae form. Slowly, she directed her fire into giving her wings and feathers until she too resembled a hawk. Her hawk's feathers didn't include the same greys and browns as Rowan's, instead her whole body radiated heat and her feathers glowed with embers.

Rowan landed beside her with a screech. Aelin screeched right back, triumphant. She could see everything with a stunning clarity, she could see more details than her Fae eyes could and every tiny noise the mice made in the underbrush rang in her ears. When her eyes met Rowan's she could see the surprise, the astonishment and the questions floating there. How is this possible?

I wanted to fly with you, and so did my magic.

You never cease to amaze me.

I know.

She watched as Rowan pushed off the ground, his powerful wings flapping as he soared up to the heavens. She mimicked him, pushing off the ground and flapping her wings until she too was rising with the winds. Aelin spread her wings wide as she glided alongside Rowan, letting Mala's warm light seep into her bones. They flew like that until finally soaring back to the Galathynius manor that lay in between the sprawling hills and pine trees of Terrasen.
