Introduction
Shapeshifting. The concept is much cooler than the reality.
If you could turn into anything you thought of, the thing you became would be your identity once you changed into it, and so forth throughout the process, giving you a sense of having no true identity, which would make you pick one form as yourself but know that it wasn't really you, and slowly go mad... good thing such power is a fantasy. Turning into anything, I mean. Shapeshifting itself is totally possible.
For whom? People that are chosen.
By whom? I don't know, and I have no idea how I could figure out.
Why do those people get chosen? Another question I'd do anything to find the answer to.
Have I mentioned you wouldn't get to choose what you change into? Or when? What if, on the first day of high school, you walked into homeroom, but upon stepping through the doorway, you suddenly turned into a worm? Would anyone still want to be able to shape shift, even with this information? Probably. As a sci-fi geek, I think someone like me but more stubborn would. Without that worm example, I might still say yes. That's why I put it there. It's gross. Still, there is one more detail that would throw that stubborn nerd off there feet. It's pretty darn cosmic, so the whole, "Eeew, a worm?!" thing kind of becomes sorta lame.
Shapeshifters don't change... on Earth. So, rest easy, the kid in front of you will never suddenly turn around with the face of a hungry tiger. In fact, if one of these people were to go back in time and hitch a ride on Apollo 11... they wouldn't change. On the moon. Nor anywhere within reach. "Silly, that means there is no such thing as shapeshifting!"
Have I mentioned the whole inter-dimensional travel thing yet?
I'm Ryan Corvus, ex-average fourteen year old. I don't know who you are or why you've been chosen to read my journals, but let me tell you you've better guard these with your life. If for no other reason, then when I can go back to being normal, there will be some evidence that I am not a total whack job.
