A/n: Okay, technically, it's not a Star Wars fic cause it never mentions any character names. However, we had an English assignment in which we had to write a freeverse poem on an emotion felt during WWII. I wrote this, and I was thinking of Qui-Gon during Jedi Apprentice THE ENTIRE TIME I WROTE IT. So if anything, it was inspiration for it, so that's good enough for me. One of my more depressing fics... okay, my ONLY depressing fic... in fact, it's my first attempt at anything dark to any extent... it was kinda fun... (Wink wink nudge nudge)
Grief
By Snaitf Kenobi
Grief is a crushing wave.
Its power crushes its victim with brutal force
At first, shock keeps those under its sway from fighting back
Then, shock dispels and he tries to fight back,
But he has already been ensnared, for chains hold him down
And the waves pound endlessly at him.
The chains are the power of his loss;
The waves are the knowledge that his loved ones won't come back.
The roar of the waves washes out words of sympathy from his friends
And so he finds himself alone, floundering, drowning in his grief
But just like the waves of a fierce storm on a ravaged coast,
It ebbs and it flows, loosening its iron grip before it comes crashing back full force.
Eventually, the storm that is drowning him lessens
The waves are less powerful, the chains not quite as tight.
The storm ends for a time and, although always present, the grief does not destroy him.
But now, the wave seeks out a new victim to torment.
It does not have to wait long.
Grief is ever present in the world.
