Nick was heading home after what felt like forever of a shift, it was nothing but paper work, fileing, more paper work, and maybe catching a criminal, which was followed by paper work. At this point Nick just wanted to head home to lay in his bed, and most of the other officers felt that way too. even Judy, who was useually filled with energy and exitment for the next day, seemed winded. Not that he could blame her, it was a dull and exusting day.
"Nick? are you lisnting?" Judy asked.
Nick snaped out of his trance and looked back at her.
"Huh, oh yeah, I'm just a little tired"
"you arn't having sleeping problems again, are you?"
"No. It's just that, today was long and tidius, and I was thinking about being able to unwind"
Judy nodded. She was heading to Nicks house to drop him off.
"yeah, honestly I would have rather done the parking tickets, at least then I could be outside and moving"
Nick didn't look to happy, he was just looking out the window. He let out a sigh and Judy looked back at him.
"Nick?"
"Sorry, I was just thinking about stuff"
"what kind of stuff?"
Nick turned to her.
"It's just that, well, I'm not feeling it anymore"
"Feeling it? what do you mean?"
"I mean that, Being a cop and helping people is nice and all, but It kinda lacks purpose for me now"
Judy was surprised to hear this, Nick had only been her partner for a little while, and he's already thinking it's pointless "Nick I don't get it, I thought you were happy as a cop"
"So did I, But really I don't have anyone close that I can say I'm protecting, who can't protect themselves anyways. Why should I even bother?"
"Nick don't say that, you're helping all of Zootopia, that has to count for something"
"Am I though?"
Judy looks worried, trying to think about what he means, while also keeping her eyes on the road.
"I mean, I'm not even that good at being a cop"
"What? sure you are. And it was hard for me too, but I got better"
"Well Unlike you, I never had any training or prior expereince, I just started. And sure, stopping Belweather was one thing, But In my opinion that was mostly you"
Jusy looks worried, not knowing what to say.
"maybe I'm not actually cut out to be a cop, Maybe I'm not cut ut to protect anyone but myself"
Nick looks at Judy, It appears that she is close to tears at this point. realising what he's making her hear, he try's to stop.
"Whatever, It's probably just a stupid though, right?"
"yeah, you're a good cop Nick, I know that"
Judy puts her hand on Nicks shoulder, they arrive a few blocks from Nicks house, The road is undergoing construction so cars can't go by. Nick get's out of the car.
"I can walk from hear, see you tomorow Carrots"
Nick heads off while Judy drives away, He's looking down at his feet, wondering if what he said was real.
"Can I be good at protecting someone other than myself? I don't know, maybe I can worrie about it later."
Nick arrives at the small building he calls home, He reaches for his keys when he hears a young voice from behind him.
"E-exuse me sir, can I have your help?"
Nick turns around to see A young grey fox standing behind him.
"What's wrong?"
The younger fox dosn't look well, His fur is dirty and tangled up, he's wearing a sweater that was torn and stained, along with a black shirt and some grey pants, both were also torn, he also had a few scratches on his face and arms. his tail was hanging low.
"I don't have anywere to go"
