Uncle Remus
Remus tries to reassure himself that the letter he had received from Dumbledore is a good thing. Going back to Hogwarts, as a teacher this time. He smiles and thinks if the Marauders could only see me now. He finishes packing his meager belongings and heads for the door.
He arrived early at Platform 9 3/4. He wanted to search out a compartment and settle in for a nap. The full moon was just last night and he is exhausted. Walking down the aisle of the Hogwarts Express he finds the compartment he was looking for. He stowes his case over the seat and sits down. A sad smile forms as his fingers trace the initals carved into the wall of the compartment. J.P, S.B, P.P, and R.L. The Marauders. It seems so long ago, and only like yesterday that they met on this very train, in this same compartment. Merlin how he misses them.
His thoughts turn to the prospect of seeing Harry after all these years. In another life, he would have been Uncle Remus. He would have visited with him frequently. Uncle Remus would have been there for every birthday and holiday full moon provided of course. He would have gone with Harry and his parents the first time Harry boarded the train. Waving happily as the scarlet engine steamed out of sight. It is to such thoughts that he drifts off to sleep.
He is awoken a short time later by the coldest feeling he has ever felt. He feels sadness, as if every happy thought he had was gone. His mind becomes alert and he knows the feelings are mean a dementor is near. The door slides open and he springs into action, forcing the dementor from the compartment.
Heart pounding it takes a second to hear a girls voice crying out the name Harry. Turning around he sees a bushy haired girl with a boy's head cradled in her lap. Moving nearer to help, he falters when he realizes the boy is the spitting image of James. Harry. His Harry. Somewhere in his mind he sees a much younger version of the boy swinging and giggling happily while he cried higher Uncle Remus!
Kneeling down he helps bring Harry around and searches out some chocolate for them to counteract the dementors effect. Once he is assured that Harry and the others are fine, he makes an excuse to make his exit. One last look through the glass on the compartment door at Harry and he is off, wondering if he will ever be Uncle Remus to him.
