Cho peeked in the door and nodded.
Jane checked his appearance once more then followed him.
The two men headed into the church and took their places near the altar.
Lisbon had wanted a black tie wedding and that was exactly what she was getting.
This was her day and anyway she wanted to play it was fine with him.
He made eye contact with his best man and was satisfied when Cho patted his breast pocket.
That was the wedding band.
Afterwards, at their hotel suite, Jane would give her the diamond watch he'd selected as a special wedding gift for his bride.
Not strictly traditional but nothing about their journey had been.
Six weeks before, Jane had made the decision to court and marry Teresa Lisbon.
A price above rubies.
When he'd said it about VanPelt at the bar, he'd felt angry at himself.
Angry for Lisbon.
No woman alive embodied the phrase better.
Yet somehow she'd never been the object of such a toast.
Lesser women were loved and desired and doted upon but Lisbon was always left to fend for herself.
Perhaps she was so strong that the world figured she'd always land on her feet without anyone's support or interference.
And so she would have.
But Patrick Jane owed her this.
She deserved to be loved publicly and officially by him.
He'd known she loved him for years.
That for Lisbon, he was the one.
Her only love.
That getting him as her husband would make up for the years of loneliness and self-doubt.
She deserved to have that.
He knew what it was like to have that feeling.
To have won the love of his life. To have made her his own.
He cared for Lisbon and would be good to her.
Be there for her always.
But he would never love again.
Lisbon would have understood the concept very well.
But she would never know the truth.
