Hello! This is just a little thing I whipped out a while ago. The chapters will probably be pretty short but I hope you like what I have.

Disclaimer: I own nothing

Caroline Forbes is eighteen.

Caroline leaves Mystic Falls in the dust for good with her daddy's truck. The council (more like Carol Lockwood) kicks up a fuss over this and Caroline has no trouble telling her where she can stick her 'nearly two centuries of tradition' and that she would be off Stanford with every intention of becoming a doctor instead of a cop. Carol is even more upset when she learns Caroline has no plans of ever returning. Caroline thinks this would have been an obvious conclusion after all she has gone through. Everyone she loves but Bonnie is dead because of the stupid council and it's secret keeping.

Bonnie is not so gung-ho. She moves not even thirty miles outside of town, closer to Whitmore College where Grams taught Occult Studies. Her dad bought her a small two-bedroom that Caroline was told, not asked, she would spend each and every holiday at. Caroline moves in during the summer but keeps her clothes packed for fall.

When the time finally does arrive for school Bonnie's dad insists the girls use the last two weeks as a road trip and even offers to pay as Caroline's early birthday present. The girls know it's partly guilt that fuels this gift and partly hope to dispel some of grief that had settled over them. The girls go to Vegas in Caroline's packed truck. Finally after months of dolor they let their hair down. They can't drink so they gamble, they find parties so the can drink, and they take pictures of themselves and strangers having a good time. At night they face each other in their motel bed and hold hands just like when they were little and make promises.

They promise to call each other everyday. To never forget their old friends but also to make new ones. They promise to each meet a boy and fall madly in love. Maybe a few times.

They promise to live.

There's no need to speak aloud who they're living for.

Bonnie goes with Caroline to Stanford to help unpack and approve of her roommate. Jessica Moore is a cheerful girl that Caroline seems to have a lot in common with and her dad- "Call me Trevor, sugar." is a short, sweet older man with a thick Texas drawl.

Bonnie and Caroline share a tearful goodbye at the airport repeating their promises. Caroline stares out the glass windows until the plane is out of sight and only breaks down when she pulls up outside the dorms.

When she's feeling homesick on her birthday and Jessica gives her homemade chocolate chip cookies Caroline knows she has made a friend for life.

Caroline Forbes is eighteen and her life is just starting.
