Remnants

[Zero 4]

She walked over to the same spot she always had, at the same time each day. She had done so for a few months now, ever since that one day.

After the fall of Ragnarok, she had been waiting to see someone coming over the horizon to meet her.

There was the possibility that it might not happen, but…it didn't hurt to believe. She wasn't standing there helplessly, waiting to be rescued.

No, if he did manage to find his way home, she would be here waiting for him.

The crisp morning air blew by her gently. She opened her mouth to speak.

"Hey. It's me again. I hope you're doing well, wherever you are. Listen, I've managed to stop myself from crying in the last while…all I've done is think of the good times we had together as opposed to the bad. It's really helped me out.

The world is slowly becoming a better place, thanks to you and I. Mostly you, of course…but at least I'm taking some credit this time, right? But you're the reason I'm here after all…you're the one reason all of us are here.

After that day, the day you stopped Weil once and for all, the people of the Caravan finally understood why you fought for them, for all of us. It didn't have anything to do with the fact that you were a Reploid or that they were human…no, not at all. You did that, all of that, because it was the right thing to do. Because your heart told you to.

From the day I first met you, I have always believed that you would be the one to save this world, to end this bitter conflict. But…over time, you opened my eyes, and I realized something so important. No matter what you did, you didn't do it alone. In fact, as much as I believed in you, you believed in me. You gave me so much strength in these past few years, whether you were near or far…

I've become a much stronger, wiser person now. I want to carry the torch you left behind, because I know I am the only one who can right now. Until the time comes when I must pass that torch on to another generation, I will continue to work to make this world better. Even if I die…it will have been to make this world a better place.

I realize that I have changed so much since you've been gone. Sometimes I can barely recognize myself. It's a good thing, though. A very good thing. I want to continue growing and changing like this. When you come back, I want you to see me as a different woman…a better woman in every way.

Most of all…I want you to come back. That one thing will never change.

Wherever you are, I'll be here waiting. And even though you've heard this a thousand times over, I'll say it once more before I go.

Thank you for everything you've done for me. Thank you for changing my world. Thank you for rescuing me. Thank you for talking to me. Thank you for listening to me. Thank you for being reckless. Thank you for being patient.

Thank you…for being the one I will always love.

I'll talk to you soon.

Later…Zero."

As she turned and walked away, a meteor shot across the sky briefly…as if to acknowledge her message.

And even though she didn't see it, Ciel still smiled…because she somehow felt that wherever he was, her hero had heard her every word.
