SET FIRE TO THE RAIN
August 21, 2005 11:41 pm - Kansas City, Missouri
Fire flashed in her eyes as she watched the blade sink into the man's belly. A profound pleasure shot through her when his angry words turned to screams of pain, and blood flowed on her hand. If nothing else, she had gotten the son-of-a-bitch to shut up, finally. She slapped him hard across the face, feeling liberated at having dropped his dumb ass on the concrete.
The police couldn't protect her and witness protection might not be able keep her safe, but she would do it herself if she had to. She just proved it. What she didn't expect was the rush of power that flooded through her body. If her light green eyes glowed with the thrill of it, there was no one around to see it. Certainly, the man that expired beneath her was beyond caring. The grim look on the woman's face transformed to a smile for the first time in months.

Detective Jane Rizzoli of the Boston Police Department huffed as she accepted the box Chief Medical Examiner, Dr. Maura Isles, had so abruptly thrust in her hands, confident that the tall, dark-haired woman would carry it without complaint. She did carry it. "Maura!" She shrieked in irritation.
The cool honey-blonde just kept unloading goods from the trunk of her Mercedes, not even flexing a toe in her high, fashionable, Jimmy Choo heels. It was Christmas, and this year, Maura had people to celebrate it with. She didn't even cock an auburn eyebrow. The Medical Examiner was determined to make this year with the family she had acquired one to be remembered. Dr. Maura Isles might be short on social skills, but when she saw opportunity, she grasped onto it with both hands.
She brushed her well-manicured hands together as she got out the remaining boxes from her trunk, and smiled. Jane had an annoyed look on her face, but nevertheless, the lovely Italian detective did her bidding.
Did I just think of Jane as lovely? Maura thought to herself. I appreciate that her family is becoming my family, and while she is extremely sexually attractive, I wasn't aware that I was attracted to her. Images shot through Maura's mind, and it occurred to her that the latent arousal that she felt around Jane was likely caused by precisely that. Oh dear. She thought, picking up another box that Jane turned around and gestured for with a thrust of her chin, so that the doctor could stack it on top of the one she already was unsteadily balancing. Jane was chivalrous that way.
Which made Maura get lost in thought, evaluating the dark-eyed detective for longer than a moment. Jane looked uncomfortable and heaved the boxes in her hands with a strangled sound, and Maura came back to reality. After slamming the trunk of her automobile, she picked up the remaining two which were much smaller and lighter, realizing that the detective had taken on the burden of the heavier boxes. The sweetness of the gesture infected her utterly, and it manifested in a grin.
Jane caught Maura in her dark eyes for a moment, then grunted as she heaved the parcels towards the house. Then Jane's physical form caught Maura's gaze with her Gluteous maximus. It is quite firm, Maura thought to herself. Her mind flickered with images of grasping it, with the tall detective on top of her working her thoroughly to release.
Oh dear. That was the only thought Maura could come up with at the moment. She heard Jane's beautiful husky voice shouting through the house that, "Hey Ma, it's me, we brought some Christmas stuff." The warmth littering her tone brought Maura out of her reverie. She felt so embraced by the Rizzoli's and their kindness, that she couldn't possibly jeopardize it. Though Jane does have a phenomenal figure, and even though I dislike those pants on principle, Jane fills them out properly. Maura nearly dropped her two boxes with that thought.
Suddenly, the spectre of her arousal was right there to catch them. Jane's strong arms caught the boxes, and Maura couldn't help but notice her biceps. They were quite delightfully developed. She flashed her eyes upward to catch dark ones that were consumed in what could only be described as amusement, and relinquished her hold on the items in her hands. Jane cocked an eyebrow, "See, I told you it's overwhelming during the holidays at the Rizzoli family home!" She stated with glee.
Oh Jane. If you only knew. Maura thought to herself as she watched the dark-haired object of her now confirmed desire juggle the boxes expertly and place them safely on the counter top. When beautiful dimples were flashed her way, Maura Isles felt herself melt. The light-hearted grin shining her way turn her insides into a puddle, and she clenched her hands to stop them from trembling. I am in so much trouble, she thought to herself. I've fallen in love with my best friend.
Maura forced herself to smile and ignore the realization that washed over her, while joining the two Rizzoli women in the warm kitchen for a cup of coffee.

Jane drew a hot dose of caffeine into her mouth, praising the day coffee had been discovered. Maura was acting weird, her mother was being annoying, and all was stable in the world. Hot coffee, just the right temperature, warmed her insides, and she could smile at the Medical Examiner's conversation with her overbearing mother. It was something to do with cooking, which Jane promptly tuned out the second the word "flour" came up, but it was nice to sit with two women she loved.
Wait, LOVE? She thought to herself. She knew she loved her mother, it was just that this was the first time she realized that she radiated with the same love of family for the eccentric doctor. The honey-blonde was very much a beautiful woman on the inside, and incredibly smart to boot. When she watched the gestures Maura made with her hands, she couldn't deny it any longer, however. Yes, Maura was absolutely gorgeous on the outside, too.
God, I don't want to even go there. Jane thought to herself. She hated disappointment, and acknowledging that she was attracted to the petite, glamorous woman would definitely lead to disappointment because there was no way that Maura would be attracted to her. She had said so, and that Jane wasn't her type. Jane still cringed over the bland way that had been stated. Firming her jaw, she took another sip of her coffee, but her mother caught her eye, and the medical examiner, who was nothing if not observant caught the look on her face.
"What?" She asked disagreeably. She was not going to put up with inquiries about her state of mind right now. Or ever. By the grace of God her phone rang, and she fumbled at her belt, thankful the moment had been dispelled.
"Rizzoli". She said in a tone that probably wouldn't have sounded welcoming had it not been directed at her partner. It probably didn't sound all that welcoming to her junior detective Frost, either, but she was glad to break the tableau all the same.
"Jane, we have a case at 49th and Washington drive." Frost's tone was mellow. She appreciated both his eagerness and his brevity when getting to the point, unless it was about computers. Then he just wandered off into the sunset of blah-blah-blah, but she tried to restrain herself from griping about it. As much as she could. "It's pretty bad, Jane, according the the uniforms that found it, a man's been tortured."
Jane let warmth invade her tone; she knew Frost couldn't handle crime scenes that were too bloody, even though she privately thought that despite that, he was a fantastic detective. The guy had a future, and Jane wasn't about to let his nervous stomach stand in the way of it. "I'm on my way, Frost." She stated decisively, snapping her phone closed.
Flickering her eyes at her best friend, she saw that Maura was on a call, too. Sending an apologetic look her mother's way, she put a comforting hand on the Medical Examiner's shoulder. It seemed not everyone was in the forgiving spirit that Christmas should inspire.
