A/N: I'm so sorry, again, about the copy/paste thing. I had it on deviantart, so Ifigured...

I had some help from Miss-RinRin, DoogaTheobald, and random-drawer-person on deviantart, including the bit about the magical sexist stick. ^^

Chapter One

Tanith ran a hand over her bulging stomach and smiled, biting her lip as she stared down at the pregnancy test. Positive. She nearly dropped it in alarm as Ghastly, who had just come in silently, cleared his throat.

"What's that?" he implored as Tanith held the test behind her back.

"Uh… I-it's a… a s-stick," she stammered.

"A stick. Really."

"Yes… a… a magical… Stick."

"Can I see this 'magical stick?'"

"Uh… no, it's... for females only. Any man who touches it will…"

"Will what?"

"Um," she said. "Explode."

"Tanith…"

"I already told you, it's a magical stick. And you can't touch."

He lunged for her, and she laughed, letting him chase her through the house.

"No! I'm not letting you!" she gasped through giggles. Then she stopped running and frowned. Running probably wasn't good for the baby.

"What's wrong?" Ghastly said, concerned.

She passed him the 'magical stick', grinning as she did so. Ghastly suddenly looked as if he were about to pass out.

"Wha…"

Ghastly sputtered as circles of darkness swam in his eyes, and then he collided with the ground.

When he woke, his head was pounding and the pregnancy test was lying on the bedside table. Tanith was lying down next to him on their bed.

"Morning, sleepy…" she laughed and kissed him on the cheek.

"You're… We're having a baby?" he asked weakly.

"Yes. We're having a baby."

"That's… amazing."

"I know."

Tears rolled down both of their cheeks, and they enthusiastically chatted about the baby for hours until the phone rang.

"Skulduggery," answered Ghastly.

"Ghastly, we need you at the Sanctuary. Now."

"What—"

"It's urgent. I'll be outside with the Bentley." He hung up.

Now that Ghastly had Tanith back, there was still no escaping being an Elder.

"Sanctuary business," he said to Tanith, who sighed and turned away.

"Why do you always have to be gone?"

"I don't know. I've asked to leave. It wasn't pretty."

"I see."

"Can I have a kiss?"

Tanith turned, kissed him for a while and then he was off.
