A/N: I just couldn't help myself! Enjoy!
"I'm just putting the finishing touches on dinner," Ms. Deeks told them. "Come in, come in, let's have a little chat!"
"I uh…yeah. I'm just going to go…get cleaned up," Kensi said, her smile bright if somewhat forced.
"Oh certainly! You two have had a long day. Martin will keep me company until you get back, won't you Martin?"
"Definitely," Deeks said with a grin.
"Okay," Kensi started backing out of the room. "Be right back!"
She passed up the powder room and instead sequestered herself inside the master bath. Closing the door behind her she leaned against it and exhaled slowly. "Do not panic," she said aloud. "It's fine. She's just his mom. You can do this."
Her stomach churned and her palms felt sweaty. Staring at her reflection in the mirror she swallowed hard. She couldn't do this.
Reaching for her phone she dialed. "Pick up," she urged. "Pick up, pick up, pick up."
"Hello?"
"Nell?"
"Kensi?" Nell spoke loudly over lots of noise in the background. "What's going on? I thought Deeks was taking you to dinner?"
"He did. At his house."
"Okay…"
"His mother is here," Kensi said through gritted teeth.
"His…what?" Nell asked.
"His mother. Making dinner. In the kitchen."
"Deeks has a mom?"
"Apparently," Kensi slid down the door and onto the cold tiles. "And he thought he would surprise me."
"Oh god, Kens." There was loud cheering from Nell's end. "Hang on." The sound of a door closing muffled some of the noise. "Okay. Keep talking. He brought you to his place and she was just…there?"
"Making lasagna," Kensi sighed.
"Where are you now?"
"In the master bath. Hiding. Planning my escape."
"Deeks has never even mentioned his mom. I always assumed she was dead or estranged or something."
"Oh no. She's very, very much alive. Unlike Deeks will be when I get through with him." Kensi eyed the bathroom window. "I'm only on the second story. I could totally make the drop from here right?"
"Kensi Blye don't you dare go out that window," Nell ordered.
"Then what do I do? You have family. How does this work?"
"Kensi," Nell sighed, "family isn't a project. It's not an Op that you have to plan. Not good family anyway. Just go be yourself. It will be fine."
"Easy for you to say," Kensi grumbled.
"Kensi, relax. It's just dinner. You can make it a couple hours."
Kensi exhaled loudly. "Okay. I can do this. Besides, it's not like it matters anyway, right? I don't need her approval."
"Oh no," Nell told her. "It totally matters." There was the sound of muffled whooping. "Got to go. Good luck!"
The line went dead and Kensi stared at her phone in horror as a knock sounded on the door.
"Kens?" Deeks' voice came through the wood. "You okay? Dinner's ready."
Kensi sighed and pushed herself into a standing position. "Yep. I'm coming."
A/N: I love Nell. I think she is a woman of mystery and I would love to have a "Jones, N." episode. I would also love to see more of her and Kensi together because I know in my own little brain that they are besties. Leave your love in the reviews!
