My earliest memory I have

Is watching you stand alone

Staring up at the starry night sky

I watched your green eyes fill with tears

I would tilt my head ask,

"Daddy, why are you crying?"

I did not know

Why you stared up at the starry night sky

I did not know

What you saw up in the starry night sky

You pointed out Sirius

With me giggling on your knees

I pointed at the Moon

With you smiling sadly

I pointed out a stag, doe and a bat

While your face clouded with grief

I never could understand

Now I watch your green eyes shaded by silent tears

I grab your hand and

I don't say a word

For I now know

Why you stare up at the starry night sky

I now know

What you see up in the starry night sky

There is Sirius,

The Brightest star in the sky

A touch of longing and sadness

One of the closest to your heart

The White full moon

Hanging high, making the wolf cry

A reminder of bravery, a sign of respect

The last of them to stay

The Stag, loyal and bold

The Green-Eyed Doe, for all the love

The Bat, always faithful in love, a true prince

The bravest you've ever known

Now I understand

The stars each hold a memory

Each precious, yet painful

They carve a scar in your heart every night

I think I'll start to watch the sky

And I hope you'll do too

The Sun will show Mum's smile

The blue sky will be Teddy's hair

And three white clouds will be James, Albus, and me

And before long

Just wait, Daddy

The scars will heal, I'm sure of it

But don't wish them away

For they are people to be proud of
