Fragility Cascading
A drabble in the voice of Harry Potter

Love isn't flowers and Chocolate Frogs on Valentine's Day, a weekend trip to Hogsmeade holding hands, or even a broomstick ride through the night. It's not even that…lightheaded and bubbly feeling you get sometimes.

I mean…sure, you can get those sometimes. But that's not all it is. It's a lot more than that.

It's more than just saying, "I want to be with you forever." It's saying that and actually knowing what "forever" means.

It's more than…remembering birthdays and anniversaries and getting presents.

It's more than a social status of "dating" and "boyfriend" and "girlfriend."

It's more than all of that.

Love is…well…it's…

Love is…beautiful. It's…being with someone and striving to be perfect for them, wanting to make them happy, knowing that they want you to be happy and how you can trust them and knowing that they never want to hurt you and accept you for all your flaws and how they'll always be there for you and how safe they make you feel like nothing else matters and---

…And sometime's love is heart-wrenching.

Sometimes…it feels like…glass shattering. Not just into pieces. But into dust…and it hurts…

A lot.

Sometimes Love is pretending. Pretending you're happy and pretending to smile. Sometimes it's pretending you don't want to touch someone and hold them when they cry or just wanting to be close.

At times…Love can be looking at shining diamonds on bands of gold and silver…but smiling regretfully knowing there's no point in buying one.

You know what Love is?

Love is…watching the girl that you've cared for more than anyone you have before, but too scared to be with her because of the danger she'd be in…sometimes it's watching that girl walk away, smiling…being happy with your greatest rival and enemy.

Love is…trying not to cry and scream as she shows you her wedding ring.

Love is…saying, "Congratulations, Ginny," and forcing the smile to reach your eyes.

Love is shaking hands and saying with painstaking good manners, "Congratulations, Draco," and making a conscious effort to use his first name.

Love is…letting her go.

So just…just leave me alone right now okay? No Ron, Hermione…don't give me that look. Please. Just…get out okay? Shut the door behind you. No Ron, leave the firewhiskey.

Please…just leave me alone…

I don't feel like being a hero right now.
