Disclaimer: Ghost Hunt is owned by Ohno Fuyumi. This drabble is a work of love and admiration, not profit.
More pointless drabble with squinty hints and vague allusions to Naru x Mai…and possibly spoilers through manga volume 9—if you cogitate and extrapolate really hard. (When, oh when will #10 be released?!) And because I'm not-so-secretly in love with Lin.
I was just thinking: Why does Mai's power keep getting stronger? Why is Naru the only one 'telling' her things during dreamtime? Coupled with what I know through Japanese volume 9 (soon to be known to all at the end of the anime series, I think), this is a very (very, very) roundabout and hazy take on one possible answer to those questions. Purposely indistinct. 'Cause I may take this idea and run with it in another fic—or not. And…just to irritate you.
Karma
Lin knew he would lose his unique position sooner or later—after all, children must mature into adults. Some simply do so before others. But when that coincidentally disastrous first meeting took place (his leg still ached in damp weather), it seemed to hasten the inevitable.
Lin wasn't certain how he felt about the imminent ending of his duties as guardian to the self-contained and self-assured young man (providing he actually got around to doing what needed to be done and admitting what needed to be admitted, that is). And though Lin was close-lipped to a fault, that didn't mean he possessed a closed heart. Naru was as close to family as he could currently claim, and giving up his position of teacher, mentor, and (yes, dare he say it) exclusive friend was not something he relished. But, as a friend, Lin was glad to know Naru had found what he truly needed to balance the frightening and destructive power within himself, not to merely contain it. It was simply unfortunate it came in such a bumbling, bubbly, honest-to-a-fault package.
Lin's thin lips twitched into something almost resembling a smile. It would be a joy to watch the headstrong young man get his moody karma returned to him—with interest.
