Ch.1 A Not So New Man.
Buffy was exited. When the graduation war temporarily slowed Sunnydale's evildoing to a crawl, Giles insisted she take a two-month vacation, saying that he and the Scoobies could handle things while she was gone. Shortly before she was to return, Willow emailed her that not only had Giles bought the Magic Box but was also sporting a new look, she immediately returned home, and now waited anxiously at the airport to see her watcher and his new style.
When she finally saw him, Buffy was shocked, her once tweed clad mentor was now GQ Giles. He wore a well-trimmed beard and no glasses, a basic black blazer and a white tailored dress shirt with no tie, black boot-cut pants and black moccasins she recognized as Prada shoes. Giles enveloped his charge in a bear hug and kissed the top of her head. "Welcome home Buffy, I missed you" The slayer first tensed in surprise at this loving display, then returned his fierce but gentle hug, making it an outlet for her deep affection for him.
They stayed like that for several minutes. Finally, Giles pulled away, picked up Buffy's luggage before she could protest and headed for his vehicle. Waiting for them instead of the Citron was a new navy blue SUV. Do you like it? Giles asked smiling at her stunned expression. "It's called a Ford Escape hybrid; it runs on electricity and gas. I got it from a time-traveler named Dr Who in exchange for using parts or my car to fix his time machine."
One the drive home, Buffy quizzed Giles about all his seemingly drastic changes. Her watcher grinned slightly " I showed mainly my erudite side because of Council protocol and because that was the image you were all comfortable with. However, the recent university graduation events made me see that you're now all mature, young men and women who can handle more complete version of myself." Buffy felt a surge of honor at his calling her a woman, she gave him another quick once-over," This version suits you", she said smiling.
They arrived to a house full of the current Scooby lineup, namely Willow, Xander, Oz, and Amy, all ready to celebrate her homecoming. But, just as the party began, a portal opened up in mid air, out of it came a small group of men and five teenage girls.
