The Last Time
Version 1

There was a slight tremor, it was barely detectable but he had felt it, the soft whisper that escaped her lips, so subtle so agonized, most had been unaware of it yet he had heard it. The look of utter horror that flickered across her features, a timed dance whose lifespan was no more than mere seconds. He had sat front row to it, though he would have preferred to not have shown up at all.

His fingers had curled tightly to the point of losing all colour. A small sign of pain none had bothered to see but she had. Teeth biting down on chapped lips, trying and longing to get some feeling, any feeling into his numb body. She had seen him draw the red liquid, a desperate attempt to prove this all a joke, nothing more than a cruel senseless joke. How she wished it were.

Small murmurs drifted around them, drawing closer to the body. It would have been disrespectful to just leave him where he laid despite the circumstances; it was something that just wasn't done.

Dark eyes empty of all life stared up blankly at them, a trickle of crimson running down the side of parted lips. His skin was practically scratch free, no real sign of a fight clear on his ghostly corpse. Dark hair barely brushed his cold brow, long strands framing his delicate face creating a pattern of their own upon the life-filled soil.

The sky was marred by strings of dull clouds, no real destination in their paths, no clear shapes in their forms. They were as lost and confused as the beings that stood below them, a stilled moment in time of a nightmare that should have never been.

Clear blue eyes gazed down at the limp form before him a bond that had finally been severed, not by choice but by circumstance, by accident, fate's mockery of friendship. In a normally thought filled mind was nothing more than a burned image of a life now gone. All dreams having been eradicated, a new pain to add to his private collection.

It had been an accident. No one would have argued against that for they all knew otherwise it would have never happened. They had all been tense and on alert for sudden movements. He had appeared out of nowhere, a sudden step towards them, no weapon truly visible but the instance had been too sudden, her movements too rash. It was an automatic reaction on her part.

A quick jump, a sudden twist, a slight turn, a heavy push, a violent jab, too much pressure.

Pink hair rising and falling about a now stunned face. Dark hair inching forward as his body fell back, every second stealing more and more of his life away until nothing was left as he hit the soft ground, crushing the dampened grass beneath him, their agonized crunch smothered by his now lifeless form.

Silver hair appeared beside the two speechless figures, a bundle of emotion whirring about them. Lifting their lifeless teammate…ex-teammate? Friend…enemy? Gone, gone and out of their sight, only the subtle impression of his body upon the lush green beneath their feet as fingers intertwined with each other. A single squeeze allowed their digits to now share the Uchiha's blood, it now seeping through the tiny cracks where their hands could no longer cling closer.

This would be the last time they would all be together.
