Alright, this is just something I got from the promo of "The Bone That Blew". There's a sligt spoiler! Most of this is just a guess from my head.
Max could never forgive himself at the fact that he wasn't there for his Tempe. Despite the fact that the FBI agent was working with his daughter, Max got a job at the Jeffersonian as a janitor. He liked Booth, but then again, he was a hard ass on Russ.
As he swept through the entrance, the agent walked in with a big smile on his face and a coffe cup in is hand. Smiling, Max waved at Booth and Booth subconciencely waved back, not realizing who it was. He walked a few steps and his smile soon turned to a look of horror.
Booth turned back to the janitor who was sweeping happily. "Max!" He yelled out, making interns everywhere stare.
"Yes, Booth?" Max smiled and kept sweeping.
"What the hell are you doing here?!" Booth's eyes grew big.
"Why, I'm working."
"WHY?"
"Because if I didnt, then I wouldnt get paid and have a home." Max held onto the broom.
"No, I mean, Why here?!" Booth waved his hands in the air.
"To stay close to my Tempe. You would do the same thing if you were in my situation, wouldn't you?" Booth fell silent and power walked to Brennan's office.
He found her at her desk, typing furiously on the keyboard.
"Bones! Did you know that your father is working here?" Booth said surprised.
"Yes." Brennan answered shortly, not bothering to look up.
"BONES!"
"What, Booth? I don't see why this bothers you." Brennan frowned.
"Because he's a killer--" Booth stopped.
"There's no evidence that he is a killer now." Brennan's eyes turned into fire.
Booth sighed in defeat and turned around to see Max sweeping nearby. Max waved and smiled, taunting Booth at a distance.
Booth returned the gesture and mumbled, "Smile and wave, soldier. Let him know that he's not gonna get to you. That's right. Keep it going."
"Would you please stop mocking my father?" Brennan smiled at the thought that she called Max "my father".
"Wha--He--I--Arrgh! Nevermind." Booth gave up.
Later that day, in the Jeffersonian, Booth and Brennan were with the rest of the gang on the platform. Booth sat on a chair nearby and watched Brennan try to help Cam take out some organs from the victim.
"Oh no!" Cam yelped when the victim's liquid splattered on the floor. "Ugh! I should've gotten another bucket!"
"Dad!" Brennan yelled from the platform down to where Max was mopping.
"Yes, dear?" Max smiled. Booth glared at him.
"Could you come up here and clean up? We'll get out of the way." Brennan gestured everybody to get off while Max made his way up.
"Max," Booth beckoned to him when everyone, especially Bennan, left.
"What is it Booth? Are you going to tell me that you'll send me back if I hurt Tempe? Because I won't."
"Yes, and I had a feeling you would say that. Max, don't get me wrong, but you are going to hear a lot of threats against Bones. She doesn't need a protector. She needs a father. So, I suggest that when there's harm to your daughter, let me protect her. You do your job." Booth whispered, but said it louder fo him to hear.
Max smiled understandingly. "That's all you can do for her? Protect her?"
"I also care for her. More than you would know." Booth said, his eyes getting darker.
Max searched his face and squinted. Booth winced and slightly smirked. "What?" He laughed a little.
"Are you sleeping with my daughter?" Max asked bluntly.
Booth laughed nervously and exclaimed, "What?! No!"
Max's eyebrows shot up. "Why?! Are you gay?" He said in a surprised tone.
"No!" Booth laughed and turned beet red.
Max squinted and nodded. "Riiight." And walked away.
"What?! No! Max! I'm--I'm NOT! Max? Ma--! Ugh!" Booth shook his head. Then he heard Brennan call his name.
He ran off the platform where Brennan was an passed by Max, who was laughing.
