Choices

Addison took a deep breath as she walked up to her husband. She couldn't believe she was going to say what she was about to say.

"Derek?" He turned around to face her. "Can we talk for a minute please?" She shifted nervously as he nodded and they walked into an on-call room. "Okay," She turned to face him. "Here's the thing, I love you, I have always loved you, and it hurts me to know that I've hurt you. I am so sorry for what I have done, but I can't turn back time. I love you and I just want you to be happy, and I know you love Meredith, and she's the one who will make you happy, so…" She took a deep breath. "I'm letting you go, I just want you to be happy Derek, I love you too much to see you hurt and upset." Tears rolled down her cheeks and the words stabbed her heart. She didn't want him to leave her, but she couldn't be with him knowing that he wasn't happy, she couldn't do that to him or to herself

Derek just stood and looked at his wife, she was letting him go, she was letting him go so he could be with Meredith, the woman he loved…

"I'll get my stuff from the trailer and be gone by the time you get home." Addison hesitated before she took a step forward and placed a gentle kiss on his lips. "I'll always love you Derek." She turned and left the on-call room, leaving him to just watch her quietly.

--

Derek stood in front of Meredith's house and knocked in a daze. Addison's words were still fresh in his mind. He watched as the door opened and Meredith stood there. "Derek?" She looked at him confused.

"Addison let me go, she told me that she wants me to be happy, even if it's not with her, she says she loves me too much to see me unhappy. She's let me go to be with you." He just stood and looked at her.

Meredith grinned and took a step towards him. "We can be together." She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him on the lips. "We can finally be together." She smiled even more and kissed him again, pressing her body against his.

--

Addison stopped wiping away the tears that rolled down her cheeks as she continued to pack. She couldn't believe she was letting him go, but as much as she loved him, she knew he would be happy. Even if she wasn't, she was prepared to make that sacrifice for him.

She threw some more clothes onto the bed before she started folding them, hearing the trailer door open and close. "Sorry," She sniffed. "I'll be gone in a minute." Addison heard him walk towards the bedroom and she wiped away the tears, not wanting him to se them. Suddenly she felt his hands on her arms. "What are you doing?"

"You're not leaving." He looked at her.

"What?"

"Do you love me?" She nodded. "Do you want our marriage to work?" She nodded again. "Then why are you going."

"Because I'm not the one who makes you happy…" Suddenly his lips were on hers, his arms around her waist, his tongue pushing into her mouth.

When they pulled back for air Derek leaned his forehead against hers and looked into her eyes. "You are what makes me happy, you are the one I want to wake up next to every morning, you are the one I love, you are the one I want to have family with, I want our marriage to work. I know you hurt me, but, I still don't want to lose you." He caressed her cheeks. "I love you Addi, and I'm not letting you go." More tears rolled down her cheeks and she began to cry. "Hey, shh, shh."

"It's just that…you…and…I…"

"Just shh," He pulled her close. "Everything will work out, we'll get through this, together, I'm not letting you go, ever." He kissed the top of her head, knowing that she was what mattered to him.
