My name is Lunora Aneri Wellfow. I have one older brother named Fredrick, but everyone calls him Cris because of his middle name, Cristor. We're close, but i don't think he quite understands how I feel. Frankly, I'm in love with him.
I know, I know, "Ew, you're in love with your brother?"
Yes, yes I am. In our village, Castor, it's normal for relatives to marry. My grandparents are a prime example of that. So you can take your judgemental thoughts and shove it where the sun doesn't shine.
Ahem. Anyways; After our fight with Lucarella (a very pretty girl who is part of the team Moon Strike) and her brother Splayd (Same team, he's way too full of himself), Cris and I were offered a spot on the team. Cris was reluctant, and wanted to see proof of what they were fighting. I went along with him, and decided to come with.
I had no idea what was in store for us. Or, even more so, what was in store for me.
"See that building up ahead?" Miss Akame was pointing to a tall brick tower poking up over the trees ahead, "We have a man stationed there who lets us in without checking us."
"But he's only there around sundown and sunrise, so you have to time it right."
That was Aime, a really big rough looking guy who was actually a big softy. I mean, that won't stop him from fighting anyone, but he's really sweet too. I think he likes me, but I really didn't know or care. I have my heart set on Cris.
I look back, trying to look into Cris' eyes, hoping that it could trigger one of those moments in romance books that tie the characters together.
What I see is Megumi, a girl a little older than myself with purple hair and always some sort of white dress, hanging on his arm and talking quietly to him. She giggled and glanced at me, and I turned around quickly.
I know she didn't say anything, but I'm pretty sure that meant, "Nice try, but he's mine."
I am definitely not going to let anything happen between them! I vowed to myself, raising my chin indignantly.
Lucarella and Splayd were ordered to stay back at the base with Gerald, in case it were raided. Although, who would attack the base. It's disguised as the main home of the Governor of Fenyur, or something.
Freesia, Miss Akame's daughter, was walking along side me. The chain around her wrist clanking quietly. I had known about Freesia since Cris and I had started sleeping at the base, since we shared a room. But I had thought she was much younger than myself. When I found she was a little older than me, I had been trying my best to treat her respectfully.
"Freesia," I said quietly, looking at her.
She looks over at me, her large red eyes staring at me in curiosity, "What is it Lulu?"
That was her nickname for me, "Moony." Probably because my name sounds like Lunar or something, it was just her way of talking, "How do you tell someone you," I paused, looking for the right word, "Like them?"
Freesia puffed out her cheeks like usual and crossed her arms, "You better not be talking about Aime!" She hissed at me.
Aime? I asked myself. Why would I be attracted to Aime? I looked forward to see Aime walking with Akame, helping her over knots in the roots while she tried stopping him, insisting she was young and agile enough to do it herself. Then she tripped a little over a small stone.
Well he's big and soft-looking, and he looks like he could be really warm too. I blushed slightly, imagining what he could do with his big, soft arms and how his eyes would feel staring into my soul.
Stop! I yelled internally. My heart's set on Cri-
I turned around to see Megumi trying to kiss Cris! AGAIN!
This has been a recurring issue since that night we were taken in. I've come across her standing and trying to peek into his room in the middle of the night. I've even come across her trying to sneak into the washroom when he's in there!
I cough loudly, which straightens the two up, and remember I haven't answered Freesia yet, "No no, it's not Aime. You don't have to worry."
Freesia kept her frustrated look for a moment longer, before she looks forward again, "How would I know? I still haven't been able to, how could I tell you?"
I sigh and nod, and continue walking with the small group. Aime had essentially forced Miss Akame to allow him to help. She must be tired because the older woman was allowing him.
"All of you," Miss Akame called back, "We're getting close to the tower, go along with whatever Aime says."
"Yes Ma'am!" Freesia and Megumi call in unison, Cris and I following sloppily and out of sync.
The tower was now very close, just five minutes away if we walked. On either side of the tower was a wall that stretched, I'd assume, around the entire Capitol. There were three men standing in a line, directly in front of the gate that would get us into the city.
"You six!" One man shouted loudly when we got closer, "State your business in the Capitol!"
"We mean to visit a tavern within the Marketplace," Aime called back, the middle guard, the one who had been yelling stayed silent, "Buttered Chops."
"Is that some sort of code word?" I whispered to Freesia, who had her hands on her hips.
She glances at me, lifts her chin, and sighs. Freesia then looks at me, frowning, and says, "No, it's the name of the Pub."
The look in her eye said she was lying. Aime had walked up to the guard, and they were conversing. Miss Akame was using her Katana to steady herself, Megumi was still clinging to Cris (much to my dissatisfaction), and I was looking at the wall.
What are they keeping out? I wondered to myself. Danger Beasts?
We were let in, without being checked for weapons, thanks to Aime and the guard that must have been with our rebellion. We were walking through a small corridor through the wall. We were almost at the entrance when I thought of something.
"Miss Akame?" I jogged to catch up with the two, "Won't people recognize you if you go out there?"
"Akame?" The elder asked with a huge load of false-innocence, "Young lady, I'm not a legendary swordswoman. I'm just a little old lady, named Joume."
"J-Joume?" I asked confused.
"It's her cover name, Lulu," I heard Freesia whisper in my ear, her warm breath tickling my ear, "She has one so she can come in undetected and inconspicuously."
Now I get it. I continued walking with them. Wait, Lulu?
I look over at Freesia, who had disappeared and was walking closely to Aime. I fell back a little, now alone with no one to walk with. I heard Megumi cooing softly to Cris, and Freesia fawning over Aime as he kept telling her to stop. Akame was silently waiting for the door to open.
After a moment or two, the large metal door slid open with loud grinding noises. I was blinded momentarily by the difference of the light. As I continued to walk with the group, briefly silhouetted in the light, I got my first glimpse of the city. The city than controlled everything. The city that killed my father.
Aime and Miss Akame (Joume) were in the lead, followed by Freesia and I. Megumi and Cris brought up the rear. We were walking leisurely through the streets, meandering around the steady stream of civilians until we approached a narrow alley. Down further in the alley was a staircase leading down about a meter-and-a-half.
Miss "Joume" stopped and turned to us, "Freesia, Megumi, I would like you to show these two around. Show them the poverty this empire is creating, but also show them the kindness that we give."
"Yes Ma'am," They said in unison, before megumi grabbed hold of Cris and said, "I call Cris!"
She then ran off, pulling him along with her. They were eventually swallowed whole by the people of the city. That left Freesia and I. We both sighed in unison.
I don't want to have to end up with Splayd! I puked a little at the thought, but swallowed it down again. Even thinking about ending up with that sicko made me sick. Why am I even thinking about him anyways!
I look at Freesia, who was swaying her hips as she walked through the crowd, and blush slightly. I'd rather get with her than Splayd. I smiled a little then took back that smile. Why am I thinking of getting with anyone at all! The only one I need is Cris!
I had began to fall behind, and I tried to catch up, but a surge of people came between me and her. I began to get worried. I could get lost, or kidnapped, or hit on by some creep! Freesia! Wait!
I try running through the crowd, but I'm quickly shoved out of the way. I yelped as I landed on my butt, hard. It hurt, and I was scared and lost.. Now the crowd was surging around me, and I could hear someone yelling over the group to make way.
Soon after, the crowd parted to my left to reveal a tall young man with a short sword at his side. He had short silverish hair and bright electric yellow eyes. He was wearing a longer tailed version of the Imperial Garb many of the guards were wearing. He smiles and holds out his hand.
"Milady," He said, his voice soft and deep, and his eyes filled with care and something else I couldn' put my finger on. He held out his hand, "Trying to escape the castle again?"
Castle?
"Come right with me Milady," The young man said as I took his hand, not knowing what else to do. His hand was soft, but rugged at the same time, "You father is missing you greatly," He held tightly, but carefully, "And he insisted you come with me."
"B-But," I could barely get the word out, much less the sentence, before he placed his finger on my lips.
"Ah, not a word Milady. I have strict orders," He leads me through the parted civilians, all of whom were either muttering in confusion or wonder, or began to bow.
But what about Freesia?
That was all I could think as I was led away from the marketplace, and to the castle that overlooked the entire city.
