"The world could always use more heroes"
That was what she said back then, I thought she was just saying that more people doing good deeds would make a better world. That small gestures of kindness and bravery would create a better society. In a way that was right, but that was always an undeniable fact.
After the incident at the museum with my brother we both took to community service, determined to help out as much as we can even in our small ways. My brother really looked up to Overwatch, they were not just his heroes they were his world. That's why it's not surprising that he came up with this idea. As for me, that incident opened my eyes. I used to love them as a kid and I was a bit too heartbroken when I heard that they were shut down, and the reason behind it. But now, not only was my love and trust for the heroes of Overwatch rekindled, It also caused me to question the real reason they were shutdown. But now, I began to question everything I thought I knew about them and the government. For one the sniper that Tracer and Winston fought at the museum had a visor that was uncannily similar to the top secret project being developed by Vishkar and was funded by the government.
How did I get access to top secret military info? Easy, I hacked them. I don't mean to brag but I consider myself pretty smart for a 17 year old kid, that's why I'm already in university. Also to be fair I would have already finished it if I didn't take a break for 3 years playing StarCraft with a certain someone. But enough about that, let's get back to my story.
I was hacking around for information about Overwatch and what really happened to them when I stumbled about that information. It seems that what I found was not answers but more questions. Why was an assassin using top secret military equipment, and why was Overwatch shutdown even though the threat of the second omnic war was still there?
I didn't have enough time to ponder on this question because there was something that caught my eye.
"OVERWATCH RECALL INITIATED"
I immediately opened the folder and looked through its contents. What greeted me was the best news in my life, apart from that time that I met her. But that's beside the point.
The folder held a document stating that the former Overwatch agent Winston has initiated a recall for all previous Overwatch agents. Because of the PETRAS ACT this was deemed a criminal action and the document stated that all known former Overwatch agents should be closely monitored. The folder also contained the original recall message sent by Winston.
"The world could always use more heroes"
I finally understood her message to me back then. Well maybe I'm just reading too much into it but nonetheless, she was right. The world needed more heroes right now, and I know someone who might just be interested. So I copied the folder to my drive and grabbed my phone. As my fingers automatically moved to press 1 for speed dial, just like the many times that I did for the past 5 years. But this time the reason was different. I was not making a lame attempt at catching her attention nor was I gonna challenge her to a match to prove I was better. No, this was different.
She was no longer the person I saw in the internet one day, she was no longer carefree girl that just wanted to be the best at what she does. No, she was now one of the most respected pilots of her country. She is now what the world needs, a hero. And that was why she was the first person I thought of contacting after I learned about this information.
I was brought out of my thought when a female voice answered on the other end.
"Yeboseyo."
I can't help but smile as I answered.
"Hana, I have something you might be interested in."
