Title: New Beginnings

Pairings: Mainly Spitfire, all canon.

Summary: "I should have done this a long time ago." He tells her. And it's true. He should have done this in Bialya. He should have done this when Kent Nelson told him to chase his "spitfire".

Rating: K+

Notes: Not great, but it took me about ten minutes. Also the ending sucks. Oh well.

"I should have done this a long time ago." He says.

Bialya Bialya Bialya.

"No kidding."

"Happy New Year, Justice League." The animatronic voice rings through the watchtower. And it is happy, mostly. The team just saved the Justice League, and though they still have the matter of Roy (the real Roy, and the fake), and fighting the Light is almost 100% not over, right now, it's happy.

And so, before he can talk himself out of it, he scoops up Artemis bridal style (Déjà vu).

He's got to admit, he really does like her. He was, well, mad when she – no, when he thought that she – had gone after Sportsmaster and Cheshire by herself. Mainly because he had thought she had understood – thought that he had made it clear - that she didn't need to prove herself to the team – to him.

Of course, when he learned the truth, he was more worried that she wouldn't forgive him.

But she did.

And now they had just saved the entire League from being controlled by Savage and Klarion.

So yeah, Happy New Year.

"I should have done this a long time ago." He tells her. And it's true. He should have done this in Bialya. He should have done this when Kent Nelson told him to chase his "spitfire". He had so many chances to do this, and he can hardly believe it takes some silly New Year's tradition to actually do it.

He's aware that everyone's watching them…or most everyone, anyway. But he really doesn't care, because Artemis smiles a half grin and says, "No kidding." And then he's kissing her.

And man, he was totally right when he said he should have done this a while ago. He should have done it when they first met, because, damn, it was really, really great. Nice. He didn't even know how to put this into words. Just…wow.

And when she pulls back, he says exactly that. "Wow." And she laughs, and he's kind of just staring at her, until she nudges him with her elbow and says, "You going to put me down now, Baywatch?" And he may or may not be blushing, but he puts her down.

Then she smiles up at him, this time a full smile, and kisses him again.

And there he is, kissing back, trying to figure out why he didn't kiss her months ago.

(Later Robin tells him that it was inevitable. And that things should be allowed to be "nevitable" too, because prefixes are like the dictators of grammar. And that Zatanna kissed him. And Rocket kissed Kaldur.

Wally isn't really listening.)
