Here she was. Stepping from the bottom stair, Buffy looked straight across at him. He stood from his bed, staring right back. The boxing bag was swaying lightly from side to side, a pendulum suspended by chains. He realized that this could be the last peaceful moments of his life. But he was with her.

"Spike, are you alright?"

His stomach lurched, as if it had just come across an army of angry, stake-wielding vampire hunters.

"Alright? No, pet, I'm bloody terrified. Tomorrow could be my last few hours on Earth- yours too, maybe. The Potentials aren't ready. Not all of them. They can't harness this power, it'll be too much for them."

Spike turned away. Buffy reached for his shoulder and placed her hand upon him.

"I need you in this fight, Spike. If you aren't there, we may as well give up. This army, this horde, this rabble, whatever you wanna call it, won't get past us. The girls are ready. As long as Willow plays her part, we have nothing to fear"

He turned around to face her again, and to her surprise, tears had formed in his eyes. They welled up like a swimming pool for his irises.

"Its not death I fear. It's the thought of losing you. If you don't make it outta this then I'll just curl up and rot." At this, his voice cracked. Buffy pulled him into a warm embrace.

"I promise to survive if you do" she whispered into his ear. Spike pushed her from him gently.

"We have a deal, Ms. Summers."

She had tears running from her eyes to. She giggled, quietly.

"But, if these are my last few hours, I can't think of someone I'd rather spend them with than you."

She looked up at him, more tears streaming down her face.

"I love you, Buffy"

And, after all this time, she accepted it.

"I love you, too Spike"

You will remember when this is blown over,
And everything's all by the way,
When I grow older,
