Hey gang, Sam here.

One of the best things my mom has ever done for me (and trustsme there isn't a lot on that list) was actually not something she planned. She was the reason me and Carly became best friends. Well, sorta.

It all started that morning, almost eight years ago, when she turned on the lights of my room and I woke up. She was in a hurry to go to her yoga class because the yoga teacher was "the man of her dreams" (yuck) and on the way to school almost ran over a mail man, a stop sign, and a street light (did I mention she was putting on a clown-face full of make up in the process?) She finally parked the car and looked at me and said "Samantha, remember what your principal told you" "You're the next Hitler?" I asked. (What can of insult is that anyway?) "No…the other thing," She nodded encouragingly as I pondered "that if I was old enough I'd be in Juvie?" "NO! That you have to act better in class or else we'll have to send you to privet school!" She said her tone of voice turning stern "and I can't pay for privet school, so you better not. Be. Bad. Understand?" her eyes stared into mine. I nodded as I grabbed my MMA backpack and walked out of the car. I started walking when I remembered that she didn't give me any money for lunch. I ran after her station wagon flailing my arms around but either she didn't see me or she saw me and didn't stop (I like to think it was the first…) either way I was left with a dilemma, steal someone's food or go hungry. Safe to say, if you know me at all, it was an easy choice.

The bell rang and I got out of my chair and headed to the cafeteria in search for prey. There was the obvious, Gibby, but he was sitting a little too close to the teacher on duty for me to get away with it. He had been doing that since the last time I took his money. Then there was Eric Kelly, this nerdy looking boy who talked really fast. But I was afraid he would tell on me and the only thing worse than an empty stomach was an empty stomach at a privet school, where if you bullied someone to get money you'd get your knuckles slapped with rulers (or at least that was the rumor). So I rolled my eyes and went outside where there were fewer teachers and more opportunity. That's where I saw her, Carly Shay, although all she was to me at that moment was the new girl who'd be my next victim. So I walked over and introduced myself, she did the same but I was half paying attention half looking at her sandwich (ham and cheese, still a favorite) I asked her politely if I could have it to which she said "no way, get your own" So I did what any hungry Puckett (except Melanie) would do, I grabbed her sandwich and pushed her down off the bench. Now if she was Gibby she would have cried like a toothless baby and if she was Eric she would have ran inside and grabbed a teacher, but she didn't do either of those things. As I was about to take my first bite, mouth watering with excitement, she grabbed it back and pushed me off the bench and onto the grassy floor.

And that was the first time I ever respected someone my own age, that's when I first wanted to become friends with someone. All because my stupid, idiotic mother forgot to give me money to buy lunch. So, mom, if you ever read this, thanks.
