Something I wrote while supposed to be studying...but hey, two A's so far :)
The small family of four entered King's Cross Station approximately fifteen minutes before their train was due to leave.
Draco Malfoy pushed his daughter Cassie on her trolley. She had recently turned eleven and about to board the train to Hogwarts with her elder brother Scorpius. She gazed around wide-eyed at the chaos on platform 9 3/4.
Hermione Malfoy walked beside her husband of fifteen years quietly. Her son walked on her other side. He knew it was hard for her to come to the platform.
After she almost broke down in tears when he was leaving for his first year, he asked his father what had been wrong.
Draco had sat his son down during the Christmas break. He told his son in detail about his past as a Death Eater, his involvement in the war and so on.
Then he told Scorpius about his mother and her place as part of the "Golden Trio".
He told Scorpius about how himself and Hermione had been Head Boy and Girl in their repeated seventh year and had been paired together for everything and eventually fell for each other.
Draco lastly told his son about how Ronald Weasley and Harry Potter had reacted to the announcement of their relationship.
Scorpius learned that his mother had been rejected all of her friends, none of who understood what she felt.
So Scorpius understood why his mother was upset when they walked past that ever-present group of redheads that filled an entire corner of the platform. He always took extra care with his mother at the platform.
This year, he hugged her tightly before taking his sister's hand and led her on to the train. As they waved at their parents from their compartment, Scorpius saw a solitary tear run down his mother's face as his father ignored the multiple Weasley glares and embraced her tightly.
Maybe one year, he thought sadly, I'll be able to make her smile.
Hey Guys :) Reading over the reviews for this story...some people wanted a multi-chapter fic. I'm afraid I tried and failed at those before so I don't want to try make this into one :) I will take any suggestions for a related one-shot or something like that if anyone has a good idea :)
