They Who Walk in Darkness
Love is blind. Ah, yes. A couple of very wise words, indeed. And it's the words which appear into, between you and me, my brilliant mind when I see the young couple before me: Tony and Carol, both known for being quite brilliant in their own sense: Tony for his logic and intellect under pressure while Carol for her bravery in the field.
Ironically, Tony, with his bright mind, cannot figure out what's in front of his. Alas, that's how love works. Some wrongly call it stupidity, while it's not. It's simply love when it's the finest. Innocent and pure. The kinds of love people usually wish for.
Sometimes, I take the time to watch them - ah, yes. An old fool like myself do have some time on one's hands – and while they're quite a team with other officers at hand, Carol and Tony make an extraordinary duo. It's visible even through the smallest and most simple things they do.
I've seen Carol sit by Tony for hours in the infirmary after his brain operation, while everyone is thought to be asleep; while everyone is too tired and worn out –she's there. Talking, sleeping or simply holding his hand.
I've seen Tony sit by Carol's side when she's solving cases, long after the others have given up and gone home for at least a few hours sleep; I've seen Tony managing to pursue the hard working woman into taking a break when she needed it the most.
I've seen how Tony's eyes light up when he sees her; a light which can warm through the coldest of hearts, even Carol's. I've seen how Carol smiles when he tells her something. Not the smile of amusement, but of love. The type of smile every young man wishes to receive. It's real love and it shines through their whole being. It's a kind of love their lucky to share.
But even though the signs are so obvious - if I say so myself - they're both oblivious. Yes, they're both in darkness; they're both blinded by their feelings. They are walking in darkness, trembling to find the light, even though they already have it in their hands.
Love is very blind, indeed.
