Ted and Georgette were at their apartment together.

"Just think about it, Georgette," he said, "Our future is assured! We can take it easy, for the next few years! Isn't that wonderful? Say, how about I give you one of my long foot rubs, eh?"

Unfortunately, she wasn't as happy as he was. Sensing this, he said, "Is something wrong, Georgette?"

"I'm leaving you, Ted."

"WHAT?!"

"I was very disappointed in you, today. You could have stood up to that evil man and resigned. But you didn't."

"But Georgette, . . ."

"They are all my friends. Mary is my best girlfriend."

"They'll all get jobs. Mary's a great worker. Mur is one of the best writer's in the business. Lou's one of the best, too."

"And what about you, Ted?"

"Me? Well, I. . . I did it for you!"

"No, you didn't. You did it because you're vein and egotistical. All you think of is yourself!"

"Georgette!"

"I'm packing. I'm going to see if Mary will let me stay with her. You can keep David. Goodbye, Ted."

She went into the bedroom.

He sat in a chair and sobbed lightly.

"I know what I need to do," he said to himself.

He got up and went to a phone. A small directory was there. He consulted it and dialed a number:

"Hi, this is Ted Baxter, remember me?. . . I'm fine. Liston, you once told me that if I ever changed my mind and wanted to be a game show host, you'd have a job for me. Does that still hold true?. . . Wonderful!. . . Yes, I can come to LA. . . This Wednesday at 12:00?. . . That would be fine. I'll be there. . . OK. And thanks!. . . Bye."

And then he made a second call:

"Hi, this is Ted Baxter. I've decided to join my friends in the unemployment line. . . That's right, I'm resigning. I don't care how much money you offer me. . . THAT MUCH?!. . . no, that doesn't change my mind. That is, unless you're willing to keep my friends. . . Well then, I have one last thing to say to you: Kiss my ass!"

Unbeknownst to him, Georgette had reentered the room and watched him make the calls. She smiled after he made the first, and smiled even more after the second one. The she sat on the couch.

Ted noticed her. "Georgette!"

She sat on the couch and slipped her shoes off. "Massage my feet, Teddy Bear!"

He sat next to her. She put her feet in his lap, and he began massaging them.

'How does Las Angeles sound?"

"Las Angeles sounds wonderful!"
