~Laddie Flashback #5~
Laddie sat in the middle of the large queen size bed, following her daddy with her eyes as he moved around the room cursing and hurriedly throwing their clothes into the duffle bags. Eor was hugged tightly to her chest and the sounds of sirens filled her ears. Daddy had gotten himself in trouble again and now they had to run.
"Let's go, Laddie." Grabbing the duffles in one hand and Laddie in the other, her father strutted out of the moldy hotel room. He slammed the door shut behind them and jogged to the chevy. Her father put Laddie and the bags in the passenger side before getting in the car himself. Starting the ignition he pulled out of the parking lot and screeched down the road, dust and dirt from the road being thrown into the air causing cloud to form behind them.
Laddie's eyes peeped into the side view mirror, seeing no one following them but the sound of the police cars was still piercing the air so she thought they must be getting close. Laddie's dad glanced down at her for a second, grimacing at the large cut on her cheek he knew that if they did end up getting pulled over he'd definitely get questioned on that. Even though he did do it, he didn't want CPS snooping around and throwing him in jail. That wouldn't sit well with him at all.
Bringing his eyes back to the road he tried to ignore the sirens that were following them as he peeled down the road. Laddie stayed quiet for the duration of the ride, not questioning her father as he made a sharp turn onto a road that led into what seemed to be some sort of state park. Her little hand drew pictures on the window as she hummed Ain't No Mountain High Enough to herself. She wondered where they were going, but she knew if she asked she'd either get hit or her daddy say what he always does, 'Where ever the road leads us'.
