Story based on 'Come away with me' by Norah Jones
Come away with me in the night Come away with me And I will write you a song
Come away with me on a bus Come away with me where they can't temp us With their lies
I want to walk with you On a cloudy day In fields where the yellow grass grows Knee high So won't you try to come?
Come away with me and we'll kiss On a mountain top Come away with me And I'll never stop loving you
And I wake up with the rain Falling on a tin roof While I'm safe their in your arms So all I ask is for you To come away with me in the night Come away with me
WITH ME
I've been thinking, some might say too much, about you and me, 'us'. What we do and say and sometimes what we don't just because we don't have to. There's a feeling swimming in the pit of my stomach, and beating in time with my heart, a feeling that takes over my quintessence and forbids me to sleep, prohibits me to eat, breath, just live like this anymore.
That's why I am here, that's how this came to pass. Speeding down this open highway, the mountains ahead of us; decorated by grey clouds that smother the pink and bring caveat of the approaching storm creeping in from the East, and the lies left behind us.
We left; just got in the car with a handful of our lives apart, the lies that once controlled us; pretending I didn't love you, that I could subsist without you, when in reality would are my solid ground, was so false. A light wind assaults our vehicle whilst gentle but dismal rain falls from the looming clouds. Early October leaves fall from the tree's and form golden brown mush on the roads as we leave the city and head further north.
We reach the small chalet, hidden away from the view of the near by picturesque village, and run to the door, pulling our coats tightly around use to shield us from the now biting wind and stinging rain. You stock the fire while I lay out the cold fries we brought from a takeaway almost an hour ago. The hot coffee that is placed in my hands after we have eaten and 'deforested' ourselves reminds me of how grateful I am that we stopped to buy supplies.
We both lay on the couch, now serving as a bed. Your chest pressed to my back so that I can feel your breath and your voice moves through me when you talk. No sound fills the room but that of the logs on the fire as they crackle and spit, and the heavy raindrops dancing on the tin roof. The storm hits, and flashes of lighting fill the room, illuminating every shadow for a split second before they return to the inky black realm. Your arms, strong and safe, hold me tightly. I am home, because I am with you now.
Hours pass and the fire burn's itself into nothing more than a pile of embers. The sun returns to chase away the night's fears and clean up the ruin it leaves behind. I move to the window; a cold chill prickling my back as my body registers its annoyance at leaving your warmth. Rays of vivid pale yellow, gold and orange spread so thickly across the land, that it becomes impossible to tell heaven and earth apart. The knee-high dusty yellow grass in the fields beyond the window, lightly sway like waves on an ocean.
I wouldn't change this for the world. I asked you to come away with me and you did. You forgot your life; you gave everything for me, so that we could have this. I crawl back into your arms and kiss your sleepy head.
I'll never stop loving you, Jack. I promise.
