Shayera groaned slightly as she wheeled in the air above the grassy plains of Virginia. Lantern still refused to say it. They'd been playing at it for so long, and yet he still couldn't say those three little words. Three of the smallest words in the English language. The Thanagarian tongue didn't even have a word for one of them. She could understand, to a degree. His stern, military façade wouldn't drop enough to let him say anything of the sort. Not that easily. They'd only been involved in this game for a few weeks now. After a few months, maybe he would say it. Maybe.

She felt a presence behind her, and was in the process of turning her head when she felt something tap on her shoulder. Spinning in surprise, she found a small hand made of transparent green energy floating by her shoulder, bearing a note in its palm. Turning enough to see Green Lantern, flying high above and behind her, she snagged the note from the energy hand and unfurled it. Reading the message on it, she gave a sudden, delighted cry that was half laugh, half whoop.

Flaring her great wings, she spun upwards and backwards, twisting up to pursue Lantern, who flashed her a brilliant grin and sped off with Shayera in hot pursuit. As she sped after him, the sheer force of the wind rushing by her tore the note from her fingers. She let it go – she had his words, and that was enough. As the flying pair vanished over the horizon, the note slowly bore its message to earth.

It would be found the next day by a very confused farmer, who simply stared at the note and the three words on it for a long moment.

'Tag. You're it.'
