Reasons to Return

Summary: giving the necklace to Kurama held more meaning than it seemed
This is a short one-shot fic on HieixKurama. Inspired by Raven and Lucius' A support conversation, in which Lucius suggested Raven to marry, and the time when Hiei gave the necklace to Kurama so he could give it to Yukina.
Warning: hints of shounen ai if you squint, probable OOCness (I hope not), and different story from the original TV series (if not, it won't be called a fan fic)

Keep It For Me
Looking down at the tear gem on his palm, Kurama let a playful smile grace his face. "My, Hiei, I don't know you love me so," he said with a low chuckle.
Hiei glared at the teasing. "It's not for you," he snapped and grunted.
"I know," Kurama's playful smile faltered to a gentle smile. He was about to ask Hiei if it was for Yukina, but Hiei beat him to it.
"Yet."
It was a simple word, consisting only of three letters, but it meant so much to him. Kurama's eyes widened in surprise, but only for a split second.
"I will give it to you when the time comes. Until then, hold onto it," Hiei said gruffly, and turned around, his back facing Kurama.
"Why?"
Again, it was a simple word, still consisting of three letters, only it was a question this time. Hiei stopped dead in his tracks, and contemplated it for a while.
"So that I have someone to return to, and something to return for," was Hiei's only explanation to the question.
Kurama smiled, satisfied in a way. He had always cherished their partnership, though he wasn't sure if Hiei felt the same way as he did, and he was happy to know that Hiei had trusted him enough to entrust the gem to him.
"I will wait for you. Always."
And with a grunt of approval, along with a wisp of wind, he was gone, leaving promises behind.
So I Have A Reason to Return
