Yet another angsty Jily fic.

Their bodies lie so far away from each other and that is perhaps the greatest tragedy of them all.
The couple who spent a year together in the closest possible proximity die in different rooms, on different floors, in different lives, it seems.
His eyes are closed and dead and hers are open and glassy, her vacant stare fixated on the bedside table in front of her. The book lying on her pillow still has the corner folded down and last night's glass of water still sits on his chest of drawers.
The baby cries but Mummy doesn't wake up and Daddy won't come and see him and the strange pale body lying next to his mother seems evil and out of place.
Her hair is wildfire, curling around her face and she looks peaceful which is all anyone can hope for in death.
His hair is wild and untameable and reminds people vaguely of brambles- but much softer- and maybe she is wildfire and he is brambles and people overestimated them too much.
After all, they're twenty one.
If they had died next to each other, almost certainly their hands would be touching, but as it is, his life is snuffed out mere minutes before hers and he becomes still long before the light has even left her eyes.
You can't break what's already broken, people say, and it's true, because she is already resigned to her fate the moment that thing enters and tries to kill her son.
Not fucking likely. Voldemort can bleed her dry and still she'll be damned if her son is going to die tonight.
He dies protecting his family and he thinks perhaps that this is the best way to go as at least it's for something.
He hopes Lily is okay. He hopes Harry makes it out of there alive.
He hopes and he dies.
She knows and she dies.
The baby does nothing and lives.

This is just a short drabble that took me about ten minutes to write. I don't know if it's any good or not but feel free to leave a review and let me know. As always, thank you for reading!
