He was holding a black rose, just as the dating website had told him to. He, Number 2182, had been deemed most compatible with some girl, Number 5409. It hurt him to sink as low as the school's dating site, but he needed a date to the October Dance. What kind of freaky girl liked black roses? Your date, that's who, He thought to himself. If the evening went bad enough, he could always phase out by the punch bowl

"Uhh, Danny? What are you doing here?" a familiar voice said from behind him

He turned around to see Sam looking stunning. She had on a red dress that flowed just above her knees. She had on strappy shoes that added a good two inches to her. She looked as though her gothness had melted away. She was pretty. Very pretty.

"Umm, Danny?"

"Uh yeah Sam? Sorry I wasn't there. Well I was… but …gosh you're pretty." Danny stammered

"Excuse me?" Sam said blushing. She had heard, but she wanted to hear again

"Nothing," Danny blushed as well, "Sam? Are you Number 5409?"

"You're Number 2182?!?" Sam asked, half of her was surprised, the other half delighted

"I guess I am. Here's your flower." He said, giving her the rose

"Well, I guess we should go inside then" Sam said. She was so happy that she and Danny were compatible. She couldn't wait to dance with him.

"Wait Sam. I'm no goin' beat around the bush any more. I like you, okay? I really like you and for a long time and I'm so glad you're my date and I'm so glad we're compatible and…."

"Hush." She said

Then she pulled him in for the kiss of their lives.

"Wha-" Danny started to say

He was kissing the girl of his dreams. Everything was right. She was so perfect and her liked, possibly loved her.

They were kissing until one of them had to breathe, but they kept on even after that point. It wasn't till her corsage pin pricked her when they broke up.

"Why do you like black roses anyway? And don't say because you're a Goth." Danny asked

"I like black roses because they are mysterious and beautiful." She said with clarity. Danny could tell that she really felt this way, "What I wanna be…" she added quietly

"But you are Sam Manson. The prettiest, weirdest, most interesting girl I've ever known. I'll seal it with a kiss if it helps." He said sheepishly

"I'll take you up on that." She said pulling him in.

A few minutes later, Danny said, "Do you even wanna go to the dance Sam?"

"Not really Danny." She said

"Alright then."

They spent the rest of the night kissing in the bright moonlight.

Fin.
