Her choice.
I sat in the Common Room, trying to do my homework. It was getting rather late so there were only a few people sitting in the chairs this evening. Two girls sat in a corner writing anxiously down notes and a young boy in pyjamas sat alone reading a schoolbook. I sat as usual in the armchair closest to the stairs, in the middle of the room James, Sirius, Peter and a least dozen of girls stood. They were talking and laughing extremely loud of something James had just said. I just had to look at him.
He's so beautiful. He really was. His black, messy hair pointed in every direction and his hazel brown eyes shone when he looked at all the stupid fourth years girls who had gathered around him, staring at him in awe. James was laughing and his golden red tie was hanging loose upon his school shirt.
He reminded me of a little boy when he laughed liked this and even though I had forbidden myself to think about him in that way a long time ago I always wanted to be near him when he laughed like this. Just be near him
"Did you hear that Evans?" James Potter looked at me and his face was practically glowing with joy.
"No" I shook my head dryly before turning back to my potion essay. It was only half done and it was due tomorrow. I bent down and tried to concentrate. At least, I wouldn't have to see James the next few minutes. Even though he was cute and sometimes friendly and nice, I knew that I could never date him. There was something deep down in me that refused to like him. If I'd like him he would just become more selfish and God forbid that.
I looked around in the Common Room and my eyes found Remus Lupin.
He was just like me, doing his homework. He sat by the fire, bent over an enormous book and the only movements he made were when he reached out for his quill to write down sentences from the book. His delicate face was concentrated and between his eyebrows was a small wrinkle.
Without even noticing it, I smiled softly. There was something so soft and sensitive about him that I had begun to notice a few weeks ago. It made me it made me want to hug him and tell him everything was going to be okay.
Suddenly he noticed that I stared at him. He looked up and when I met his beautiful eyes I smiled weakly at him. He smiled friendly back and it almost made my heart stop. For a second, we just stared at each other and that second felt like forever for me. Then I noticed that the room was unusually silent. James had stopped talking and was now looking at us.
I frowned at him and Remus shrugged. James quickly looked away.
"So girls, do you want to hear what Sirius and I did to make Snivellus look like he did at lunch?" cried James out so cheerfully that only Lupin heard the disappoint in his voice.
