Keiko as running out of time. She was running as fast as she could. The sun was starting to rise. Keiko was out all night partying with her friends. If Jiraiya, her father, figured out she wasn't home last night, she was going to be dead. Keiko had to be home by 10:00 PM each night. It was her curfew, and if she broke it, she would be in big trouble.
Keiko slowly entered her house. It didn't look like Jiraiya was awake yet. That was a good thing. Keiko quietly took her shoes off and made it to her room. When Keiko got to her room, she quietly closed the door behind her and quickly changed into a pair of pajamas. While she was changing, she heard her father waking up. Or she thought he was waking up. When Keiko was done changing, she dived into her bed and pulled the covers over her. As soon as she did that, she heard her door open. Keiko squeezed her eyes shut. Jiraiya was checking in on her to make sure she was in bed.
Jiraiya sat down on the bed next to Keiko. He reached out and rubbed her arm. "Keiko," Jiraiya said softly. "Are you awake?" Jiraiya knew Keiko was out all night, but he wanted to know how honest she would be with him. Jiraiya didn't like it when Keiko lied to him. He didn't like it when Keiko broke the rules. "Hey, Keiko! Are you awake?" Jiraiya again asked softly.
"Hmmp. What? Dad, what to you need?" Keiko tried to ask as sleepily as she could. Keiko was trying her hardest to act like she just woke up, but her act was not convincing.
"Keiko, I know you were out all night. Again. Now, you get to explain to me why you went out after I explained to you why you weren't allowed to stay out after 10:00PM," Jiraiya explained. Keiko was ashamed. How did he know she was out all night? Keiko didn't want to get into too much trouble, so she confessed.
"Dad, I went partying with some friends. I didn't think you would mind—" Keiko got cut off.
"Keiko," Jiraiya said sternly, "You know I don't like you breaking the rules. And you know I hate it when you're not home at night! Anything could happen to you, and I wouldn't be there to protect you. Well, since you did tell the truth, I'll let this slide, but, there are still consequences. For the next month, I get to put you to bed, so I can be 100 sure that you are in bed when it is your bedtime. Okay?"
"Okay Dad." Keiko was really ashamed. She didn't like to upset her father. Well, her punishment wasn't as bad as she thought it was going to be. But she still got punished. So, for the next month, Keiko wouldn't be sneaking out to see her friends. She would e at home with her father.
