There he was a Disney Prince come to life sitting mere feet away from me. He was a gentleman, but he was tough and willing to stand up for his friends and his beliefs. He was a guy I fell in love with so long ago. We were friends back then before he left for school and before I moved away. I stood there for a moment staring at my past as he lounged on the bleachers; he looked at me than took a double take. I softly smiled and shook my head as I turned and walked away.
I smiled to myself as I began to walk along an old pathway into a small wooded area. So much had changed since I was last here. What once was a vibrant little clearing that was full of life was now a dead wasteland. I walked over to the small pond at the edge of the clearing, and sat on a rock. I looked across the clearing, memories flooding my mind of two children playing. I smiled as I saw the heart a little boy had carved into a tree, 'S+H'.
As I walked back to my new house across town I began to ponder whatever happened to simple love and childhood crushes; when nothing seemed to matter but spending time with that person. There were never any judgments and no matter what happened they would always be there for you. Love seemed so complicated now; everything had changed and everything you did was watched and judged, and nothing was ever good enough.
"Hope, is that you?" I heard someone ask as I approached my front door. I looked towards my feet as my eyes began to slightly water. I turned around to see him standing at the edge of my yard wearing the same curious face he used to wear. I softly nodded.
"Yeah, it's me." I said and he started to walk towards me a smile across his face. He stopped a few feet away. We stood there for a moment staring at each other in a comfortable silence.
"Remember that old clearing in the woods we used to play in?" He asked causing me to smile.
"I do remember it." I laughed.
"Do you think we could go there sometime and maybe catch up? It's been years since I've seen you." He said and I nodded.
"Whenever you want to Sam." I smiled.
I walked across an empty land I came across a fallen tree Oh simple thing where have you gone And if you have a minute why don't we go Oh simple thing where have you gone And if you have a minute why don't we go This could be the end of everything
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete
Oh simple thing where have you gone
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
I felt the branches of it looking at me
Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that I've been dreaming of?
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
Somewhere only we know?
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
Somewhere only we know?
So why don't we go
Somewhere only we know?
