Frazle (sort of)
Hazel sat on the their bed, pregnancy test in hand, waiting for the results. They tried to have a baby for a while now. But every time it came back negative. 5 more seconds until she would know. -Negative-
"Arg" Hazel threw the test at the wall, almost hitting Frank as he came in the door. "Hey! What did the wall do to you?" Frank smiled. Hazel fell back so that her legs were still hanging over the side of the bed, and her back was laying on the bed. She felt Frank sit next to her.
"Hazel, I was just kidding." Frank fell back so he was lying next to her. They stayed like this for a few minutes. "I'm sorry, I got to go to work." Frank sat up gave her a quick kiss on the cheek and left.
She laid there for another minute before she got up. "What are we doing wrong?" Hazel paced the room. She grabbed the phone and called the doctor to schedule an appointment. "Dr. Ross's office, how may I help you?" "When's the earliest you can see me?" "Um, we have an opening at 3:00." Hazel looked at the clock. That's in an hour. "That's great, can I schedule an appointment for then?"
She talked to the receptionist for another minute before they hung up. "Goodbye, see you at three. Don't forget." "I won't" Hazel grabbed her shower stuff and got in. She paused, resting her hands on her stomach, wondering what it would feel like to have Frank's child growing inside her. A smile crossed her lips.
She finished her shower, fingering her cult for a second. She looked at the clock and jumped. She only had a few minutes before she had to leave! Hazel ran around grabbing her things, and rushes out the door.
She drives to the doctors office and manages to make it there early. "Appointment for Hazel Zhang" The receptionist types a few words on her computer. "Here you are, take a seat. The doctor will see you in a moment."
Hazel sat down in one of the plastic chairs, fidgeting. "Hazel Zhang" The nurse led her to a room. "Sit here please" Hazel sat, and the nurse took her blood pressure and a sample, after she did that she left. The doctor came in a little while later with a clipboard and sat down. "You're here to see why you can't get pregnant, correct?" She nodded. "Correct"
The doctor flipped a page. "I don't know why. It says here that you're pregnant already." Hazel's eyes winded. "What? But it said negative..." Hazel trailed off. "The tests aren't always right. I'm assuming that you don't need me for anything else?" The doctor stood up and walked to the door. "Wait, I... I want proof to show my husband."
"Ok, just a minute." The doctor left and came back with a paper. "Here you go," Hazel went to the reception desk and signed out. She couldn't go home, not yet at least. She couldn't keep this to herself. She could call Frank, but he had an important meeting today and Hazel didn't know when that was. She might interrupt it.
In the end she went to her closest friends house. She pulled up in the driveway and sat in her car for a moment. Hazel opened her car door and walked up the sidewalk. Hazel rang the doorbell and waited. Someone tapped her shoulder, and she jumped.
"Leo Valdze! Don't scare me like that!" Leo just laughed. "Can I talk to Calypso?" "Sure, she's in the backyard with..." Leo got interrupted by a little four year old girl running up to them and hugging Hazel. "Hey, you just got Hazel all dirty. Apologize Cleo." Leo picked up his daughter.
"I'm sorry Hazel." Leo sighed. "Calypso is in the backyard." "Thanks," Hazel walked around back to see Calypso digging a hole with a plant next to her. "Nice garden," Calypso turned around. "Hey Hazel, what brings you here?"
Hazel told her as they say on the porch. "So, how did you tell Leo that you were pregnant with Cleo?" "Well, this might sound stupid but with paper clips..." "Um, how exactly did you do that?"
"Never mind, just tell Frank." Cleo came running up to them. "Mommy, Mommy, I found a worm!" Cleo opened her hands and sure enough there was a worm in them. "That's nice, now put it back please." "Ok mommy," Cleo walked over to a hole she dug and dropped the worm in it. "Goodbye Mr. Worm." Cleo said as she put dirt back in the hole.
Hazel looked at her watch. "I didn't realize how late it was. I better be going." Hazel stood up. "What time is it?" "6:30." Calypso stood up to. "It's past Cleo's bedtime. Cleo say goodbye to Hazel." "Goodbye Hazel."
Hazel drove home thinking. Frank wasn't home yet, so Hazel turned on the tv. It was on the news. It was about a car crash. "Yep Janet, ten car pileup, 3 dead, 7 injured." It cut to a helicopter flying above the wreckage. One of the cars looked like Franks car. "Nah, lots of people have that car."
... 2 hours after Frank was supposed to be home...
Hazel was pacing, telling herself that if Frank was in the crash the hospital would have called. Her phone rang. Hazel picked it up and looked at the number. It was a number she didn't recognize. Hazel hesitated for a moment before answering. "Hello?" "Hello, is this Hazel Zhang?" "Yes..." "I'm sorry to inform you that..." Hazel dropped the phone. She picked it up again. "Could you please repeat that?" She heard the other person sigh. "I'm sorry to inform you that Frank will be home late today." Hazel sighed.
... an hour later...
The front door opened. "Sorry I'm late, the road was closed because..." Frank was cut off by Hazel hugging him. "Don't do that to me. I saw the news and you really scared me. I can't be scared in my condition." "What do you mean?" Frank said confused. Hazel looked at her feet and rocked back and forth. She mumbled something. "What?" Hazel said it again. Frank still looked confused. "I'm pregnant!" Hazel covered her mouth and blushed, she said that louder than she meant to. But the look on Franks face was priceless.
