AN: I don't really know where this came from. I just started it a long time ago and I've decided to post it. It's Lil/Scotty *duh* angst. This one shot is not part of my two other Cold Case stories.

Disclaimer: I own nothing, sadly.

Unbeta'd, so all mistakes are mine.

"Look Lilly, I'm old enough to know what I can and what I can't do, okay? So knock it off!"

"What the hell are you talking about?!" She shouted.

"You ain't my mum Lil. You have no right to tell me what to do."

"I'm your girlfriend, for God's sake!"

"Oh, yeah? Now you're my girlfriend? That's not what you said yesterday, remember? So are you in this or not?"

FLASHBACK

"Lil, I'm…"

"Don't!"

"What? Look, I'm sorry okay? I didn't mean…"

"For this to happen?" She cut him off. "You sure as hell didn't, but in the end it hurt anyways."

"I know, and that's why I'm tryin' to…"

"Apologize?" She cut him off again.

Scotty sighed. "Yeah, I'm sorry I hurt you, it wasn't my intention, I swear. I just…"

"Just what?"

"Was trying to protect you and it didn't work."

"Don't give me that shit, okay? I'm tired of all that."

"But…"

"No buts Scotty."

"What the hell is wrong with you Lil?" 'Cause I don't understand. I made a mistake, I know, and I'm tryin' to apologize, okay? But this is so damn difficult! I don't understand you, and God knows I'm tryin', I'm tryin' very hard, but you don't let me in and I don't know what else I can do." Scotty's eyes filled with tears.

"You don't know what to do… with me?" Lilly's voice rose. "I'll tell you what to do." She carried on. "How about breaking up with me, huh? That way you won't have to deal with my crap. And now get out of my house!"

"What… what do you mean?"

"What do I mean? Lilly's bitterly voice ringed out inside the house. "I mean that we are over Valens, we are over."

END OF FLASHBACK

"You have no right to tell me that!" She said.

"What?! Are you kiddin' me? Seriously? I have no right to tell you this but you can tell me what I have to do? Are you serious?!"

"Look Scotty, I don't want to argue…" She closed her eyes.

He snorted. "Sure as hell don't look that way."

"Just…" she breathed. "just leave me alone, will you?"

Scotty stood there, trying to decide whether to give her what she wanted or not.

"Leaving you alone? For how long, huh? Until you put those damn walls up again, and I can't reach you?" He said. "I'm not sure I can stand that."

"Scotty…" She tried.

"No Lil, I get it." He cut her off. "You were right yesterday; we shouldn't see each other again. This whole thing has been a mistake, and it shouldn't have happened in the first place." He turned and started to leave the room.

"Scotty…"

He shook his head and spoke.

His words echoed in her head.

"It's over."

AN: So what do you think? I'm not sure about the result.
