Our Sky
Chapter One
"Seirin High"
.
..
…
A 5'3'' with a petite and skinny body with soft brown defying gravity hair, gentle caramel-brown doe-like eyes, fair skin, and wears his high School uniform. His name is Chiisai-Suzu, Tsunayoshi who preferred Tsuna. The small brunette boy stared at the school gate of his school building. He silently gulped in nervous as his palm was sweating. He wipes his palms against his pants and took a breather. 'I can do this! I promise mama that I'll try to get friends! And join the club too!' he mused with small resolved.
He refused to waste his and his mother's time and money to move to a big city from a small town. He knew it's expensive, and if he hasn't had an Uncle to live with, he and his mother wouldn't be able to afford a place to live in Tokyo. Thankfully, his uncle was very understanding and easily accepted new households to live with since he was lonely to live alone.
Tsuna closed his eyes as he remembered his uncle's words this morning before he left to his first day of school.
"You know that; your mother and I have separated fathers but the same mother, right? Chiisai-Suzu is when our mother decided to put two surnames together because she loved our fathers. My old man's surname was Chiisai, it means Little. At first, I thought it was cliché and stupid but… turns out that Chiisai has a lot of meanings. All sort of different meanings. All have one thing in common, it's modest. Meek. Humble. Plain. Ordinary. Yet… when your mother's old man surname was Suzu… meaning Bell. Our mother decided to put those surnames together, 'Little Bell'. Meaning that no matter how little you are to the big world… every little thing that you do, it will affect a big change in the world. All you gotta do is ring the little bell that will affect those around you. You, your mother, and me… we're all Little Bell that will leave a big impact on the big world; they just don't know that yet… but someday, they will know in the future once they look back. It's all because of a Little Bell. That's why your grandmother was proud to be known as Chiisai-Suzu. And you should too, okay? So, go out there and start to ring your bell once you put your mind to it. After all, you are the blood of Chiisai-Suzu. Make us proud, little nephew."
Tsuna opened his eyes and gave himself mentally pat on his shoulder to prepare himself to start his journey. Hopefully, this time… he won't be known as Dame-Tsuna in his new school life.
After all, it is his fresh start.
A thousand miles began with a step to start his own journey, his destiny, and his future.
Through the gate of the Seirin High.
"Interested in rugby?"
"Have you ever played shogi?"
"You gotta play baseball if you're Japanese!"
"Swimming! It feels great!"
Tsuna silently yelped as he nearly bumps into a student who used a signed above its head to attempt first-year students to join in clubs. He couldn't believe such a crazy entrance walkthrough filled with booths to sign up clubs. He quickly dodges not to collide with any students body. 'Heeiii…. I can't do anything in these clubs…' he bit his lip in anxious. He is aware that he lacks physical activity for sports, terrible academic, and couldn't even walk straight without a trip in the air every five minutes.
He observed his surroundings and landed on the Cooking/Baking Club. Although, he is pretty decent at cooking and baking foods, thanks to his mother who taught him. One of very few small things he can do. 'Should I sign up?' he mused in hesitant. He is aware that this type of club is too girly and probably filled with many female members. Blushes appeared on his cheeks, he is not good at interacting with female most of the time. Except for his mother.
"Basketball! Basketball Club!" a joyful student shouted as he held up a flyer happily.
Tsuna halted his step and jerked his head at the direction, 'Basketball?' he remembered after spending time with his uncle, his uncle love basketball.
Flashback
Tsuna stared at his uncle with uneasy.
Tall.
His uncle is so freaking tall that it's not even funny.
Chiisai-Suzu, Tsukiya. He has greyish short hair, warm chocolate eyes, tan skin, and he has muscles. His body is clearly athletic. He looks very intimidating and large.
Yet… his smiles are so heart-warming. Just like Nana, his mother.
Tsukiya and Tsuna are hanging out in the park with ice creams. Tsuna licked a few times with is strawberry ice-cream.
"You're too tense, little nephew." Tsukiya noticed after he finished his chocolate ice cream. "Relax, I'm not going to hurt you." He said with slight amuse and worried.
Tsuna glanced up at his uncle quietly. Tsukiya sighed softly as he is aware their hang-out is terribly awkward. His chocolate eyes observed his surroundings until it landed on the basketball court where few players play their streetball game. He decided to talk to his nephew by talking about one of his passions. Hopefully, it can make Tsuna relax once he learns about him?
"One of my passions is playing basketball." Tsukiya blurted out as he grinned. Tsuna stopped licking his ice cream and glanced at his uncle with curious and confused. "My old man loved sports that he practically threw me into every sport. I find them an okay until I touch a basketball." His eyes gloss as he lost in his fond memory, "It was one of the most marvelous sports I ever had a pleasure to play. Inside the court, I was living in a whole different world. Just me, my comrades, my opponents, and a ball. Nothing to worry about my personal life. Just focus on a game and have fun. I get to experiences and live that world for forty minutes and it was breathtaking." He closed his eyes with a big grinned on his face.
Tsuna ignored his melting ice-cream, "I-is… Bas-basketball re-really fun?" he asked unsurely.
His uncle opened his eyes and glanced at his nephew, "Of course! Especially when you play with your team! Basketball is a sports team, a family that will take care of each other and has each other's back. In the court, no one is alone." He answered then tilted his head, "You should join Basketball."
Tsuna sweatdropped, "Umm… I don't think I can…" he glanced at his body. Tsukiya followed and stared in silent until he laughed happily as Tsuna pouted.
"Sorry, sorry!" Tsukiya snickered, "You got your gene from your mother." His eyes glow with amused, "But… that doesn't mean you can't try to join! Who knows, instead of being a player, maybe you're meant to be a supporter? Teams need supporters. Ya never know… it wouldn't hurt to try." Tsukiya winked.
Turns out that Tsuna's uncle is actually pretty cool uncle… even though his appearance is still a little scary.
End of Flashback
Tsuna placed his finger on his chin in mused, 'Should I try? Obviously, I can't play… but uncle did say the team needs supporter and mama told me this school is new, just recently build not long ago.' He bit his lip, 'Not only that, I don't have to worry about being called as girly or any mean names… but…' he paled. What if there are bullies in basketball?
Then he shook his head. No! He can't let his past experiences haunt him and pull him back. He has to overstep his fear and break his comfort zone. 'Should I? Should I not? Maybe I can check it out before I sign in?' he decided to do that and hope he won't chicken out just like his terrible past.
After he searched for the booths; he finally found a table with a sign that said, Basketball.
Tsuna shyly walked toward to the table. He observed two students who are his senpais. A girl with short brown hair with bobby pins clipped on her bangs, light brown eyes, tan skin, and wears her school uniform. She is talking to a guy next to him, he has black hair, dark eyes, tan skin, and wears glasses. They both seem serious as they are discussing.
The petite boy clutched his schoolbag nervously as he finally approached them. He so badly wanted to leave and never come back.
Before he becomes a coward, two students noticed him. 'Heeiii…. Too late.' Tsuna sweats nervously.
"H-hello." He greeted his upperclassmen.
The female blinked her eyes in surprised then smile warmly, "Hello, are you lost?" she asked in a polite tone.
Tsuna's tense shoulders start to relax, "U-umm… n-no. I just… this club…" blushes appeared his cheeks. The female and the male exchanged their surprised glances.
"You play basketball?" the female asked after she observed the tiny brunette boy. He looks so fragile and lights that he could easily blow away by a wind. No doubt that on the court, he'll be crushed. Flat. In second.
Tsuna shook his head, "N-no… I can't play basketball." He admitted, "I… I thought… maybe… you want to have a supporter?" he asked himself and his upperclassmen in embarrassed.
The female student tilted her head in puzzled. Then her eyes widen as she understood now, "Ah! You mean, a manager?" she has been thinking about looking for a manager.
"Manager?" Tsuna repeated with curious and confused.
The female nodded her head, "Hai. A manager that takes care of what the team needs. Such as giving them water bottles, towels, and help clean few things. Also aid the coach's needs as well. Sometimes a manager also provides their data and paperwork. Being manager sounds like a chore job but it's more than that. Is that what you mean by a supporter?" she asked Tsuna.
'Maybe that's what uncle meant?' Tsuna mused. It's not such an awful role but he wasn't sure if he wants to become a manager in Basketball Club because he doesn't want to be a victim of the bully.
Yet, his uncle made his version of basketball wonderful to have as friends and family.
Tsuna wants that.
He glanced at his upperclassmen, he wants friends. Friends to accept him.
He should take it.
A leap of faith?
Or a suicidal?
"C-can I?" Tsuna asked shyly and the female beamed.
"Of course! Oh! My name is Aida, Riko." Aida introduced herself politely, "This is Hyuga, Junpei, the Captain of Basketball Club." Hyuga tipped his head in greeting.
Tsuna shyly smiles, "Chiisai-Suzu, Tsunayoshi. Please call me, Tsuna." He bowed to them properly.
"Here, sign this." Aida gave him her clipboard.
The tiny brunette gently takes the clipboard and signed his name. Then he hands it back to Aida. The female read the form quickly.
Boys' Basketball Club
Year 1 Room B
Name: Chiisai-Suzu, Tsunayoshi
Middle School: Namimori Middle
Reason: To support the team
"Why support us?" Aida asked with curious.
Tsuna shuffled his feet, "Umm, my uncle loves basketball…and… he s-said that basketball is li-like a family." He stuttered shyly as his cheeks tint with pinks.
Aida and Hyuga blinked then smiles at him. "Your uncle is correct." Hyuga said with a smile. "You want to know about basketball because your uncle loves them, right?" Tsuna nodded his head. "I see… it would be very nice to have a manager, to be honest." Hyuga said to his friend.
"Yep!" Aida agreed happily. "And it would be great if you come to the gym after school." She said to the possibly new manager.
Tsuna bobbled his head, "H-hai, Aida-senpai!" he blurted it out then bowed them with respects, "By-bye senpai!" he blushes as he turned around and left quickly.
Aida blinked owlishly then smiles wide, "He's so adorable!" she squealed excitedly as Hyuga sweatdropped. "He's like a new little kitten!" Aida can't wait to have such an adorable kitty of a manager!
'I'm worried about him already…' Hyuga mused as he felt concerned for the tiny first-year student.

After School
Seirin High School
Gym
Tsuna is sitting on the bench as he watches Aida walked up to the First Years line up. He was shocked to learn that Aida is a coach of the Boys Basketball Club. However, it was somewhat of a relief for him because she seems really nice.
Aida stood in front of them, "All right, looks like all the first years are here!" she said. "I'm the boys' basketball club coach, Aida, Riko. Nice to meet you." She beamed.
"WHAT?" First Years shouted in shock.
One of the first years pointed at the old man who sits next to Tsuna, "It's not him?"
Aida glanced over at the old man and smiles when she made eye contact at Tsuna, "That's our advisor, Takeda-sensei. And next to him, it's a possibility that he'll be our manager, Chiisai-Suzu, Tsuna-kun." Tsuna blushed at the attention on him which made Aida nearly squealed at his adorableness.
"Seriously?" one of the first years asked in disbelieved, "You've got to be kidding…"
Aida turned around as she turned her attention on possible future players, "Now that you're acquainted with them. You guys… take off your shirt!" she demanded and Tsuna nearly fell in surprise.
'WHAT?!' Tsuna's eyes widen in speechless.
After the first years took off their shirts. Tsuna twitched uncomfortable yet relief that he is not trying out as a player. 'Thank kami…'
"Your ability to move instantaneously is a little weak. I bet you do 50 side jumps in 20 seconds, don't you? You'll need to do a little better for the basketball team." Aida commented after she glanced at one of the future players. Then she walked ahead and pointed out few things, "You're too stiff... do some stretches after you bathe… you should do some split….try some prints on your own."
Tsuna watched Aida with awed that she can examine with just glances. 'Amazing…' he mused.
"Her father's a sports trainer." Takeda-sensei informed the tiny brunette, "He is collecting data and creating a training regimen. She picked up as a skill from observing bodies and data every day at his workplace." He explained.
'Such skill… no wonder she's a coach.' Tsuna mused as he watched the coach continued examined the physical with her eyes. Then he noticed Aida is gapping at the tall red-hair boy. Tsuna flinched, 'Wait a second! He's the first year?!' he paled as he just noticed the tall male.
"Coach, what are you looking at?" Hyuga speaks up as the coach snapped out of it.
"Sorry…" Aida cleared her throat.
"You look at all of them, Kagami is the last one." Hyuga said.
Aida glanced at her clipboard, "Really, huh?" then she realized something, "Is Kuroko-kun here?" she looked around.
Suddenly, Tsuna saw a light blue hair and pale skin boy standing next to Kagami. 'Heeiii? Did the Aida-senpai miss him?' he thought as the pale boy with blue eyes shifted to him. Tsuna stared at him and noticed a small flicker of surprise in his eyes then vanished.
"Oh, that kid from Teiko?" Hyuga remembered as Aida rubbed the back of her head with a frown.
Aida looked around then sighed, "Looks like he's not here today." She lifted her hand, "All right, let's get started with practice!"
Tsuna frown with confusion as the light haired boy walked up to the coach, "Um, excuse me. I'm Kuroko."
"AHHH!" Aida jumped back in shocked at the sudden appearance.
Hyuga blinked in astonished, "What? How long have you been there?"
"I've been here the whole time." Kuroko blunted emotionless.
Tsuna sweatdropped, 'No one notices him? Even though he was right in front of Aida-senpai?' he mused as he was slightly fascinated with this. It seems no one really notices Kuroko, judges from other faces and only he notices it. 'Does that mean he has a low presence?'
Then, he learned the famous group of basketball called, 'Generation of Miracles'. Tsuna tilted his head with curious, 'I wonder what that is…'

Chiisai-Suzu Apartment
"Generation of Miracles?" Tsukiya blinked at his nephew as they both are eating their dinner while Nana is at her job; working in late shift. "Ah, I've heard about it. It's a basketball team that has exceptional talent. They were the all-star team of Teiko Junior High. The team won the junior high school Nationals last three consecutive years. And now, they are scattered across different schools." Tsukiya explained. He picked up a piece of chicken with his chopstick while Tsuna is thinking as he was eating slowly.
Tsukiya swallowed his meat, "So, you are interested in being a manager?" he asked with curiosity.
The tiny brunette blushes shyly as he nodded his head. His uncle hummed with contemplating. His warm chocolate eyes observed at his tiny nephew. Then he nodded his head with a mental decision. "Alright, I decided to teach you the basic understanding of basketball." He said with a warm smile.
A beat of heart with hope and relief that his uncle accepts and supports Tsuna's decision. After they both finished their meals, cleaned up and went into the living room. Tsukiya went to grabbed a disk plastic tray, opened it, and placed a disk into the tray of the television. He grabbed the remote, walked to the couch where his nephew is sitting and sat down next to him. He turned on the television and Tsuna noticed the basketball is on. "Alright… the first thing you need to know is that basketball is a team sport in which ten players, five on a side, opposing one another on a rectangular court, have in play the primary objective to shoot a basketball through the defender's hoop while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop." Tsukiya pointed at the basketball screen when he paused the scene. Tsuna studied the screen with interest.
In the screen, it's a large basketball court with two hoops facing opposite with two teams facing against each other and two players stand in the middle of the court with a referee holding a ball in hand. "There are five roles of players, point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward, and center. They are basic positions, first is the point guard also known as the one is typically the team's best ball handler and passer." Tsuna watched the player in point guard role in silent. "With me so far?" Tsukiya glanced at his nephew who furrowed his eyebrows in deep concentration.
"I think so." Tsuna started to understand somewhat.
Tsukiya explains the next role of the players, "Alright, next is the shooting guard which also known as the two or the off guard. Most shooting guards are good shooters from three-point range." Tsuna blinked with surprised when he saw a player shot the ball from three-point range calmly.
"Next is the small forward that also known as the three, is considered to be the most versatile of the main five basketball positions. Small forwards have a variety of assists, such as quickness and strength inside." Tsukiya pointed at the players on the television screen, "That right there, is the power forward which also known as the four. It often plays a role similar to that of the center, down in the post or low blocks. The power forward is often the team's most versatile scorer, being able to score close to the basket while also being able to shoot mid-range jump shots from 12 to 18 feet from the basket."
Tsuna was amazed and slightly overwhelmed with this information about basketball roles, "Lastly, the center, also known as the five or the pivot, usually plays near the baseline, close to the basket. They are usually the tallest players on the floor. They are typically skilled at gathering rebounds, contesting shots and setting screens on plays." He explained and glanced at his nephew that he could tell is overwhelmed. He placed his hand on Tsuna's shoulder, "It's okay if you don't get it all the information, you'll learn once you watch the games." He gave assured smile and Tsuna smiles timidly back. "They are basic positions but there's a lot more than that. I won't explain anymore tonight, right now I'm sure you understand some of it when I explained to you. When you go see the game, you'll have a better understanding and hopefully, your coach will explain things for you." Tsukiya said.
The tiny brunette nodded his head then glanced at the television screen with curious and wonder of the basketball game. Even though he won't play in the court, but he can support the team and hopefully be part of the team like family?
How he longed for that kind of friendship bonds…

Next Day, Before School
Seirin High School
Gym
Tsuna quickly ran inside the gym with an orange umbrella to block the spring showers in the early morning. He covered his yawn and rubbed his drowsy eyes. He made a promise to Aida-sempai that he'll be at the gym in the morning if he wants to become a manager.
When he walked in, he shook his umbrella from the raindrops, place by the door against the wall along with a few other umbrellas. He hugged his satchel while walked toward to the female coach who is looking through the document on her clipboard. "A-aida-sempai…" Tsuna alerted the young woman nervously.
Aida blinked and glanced down at Tsuna, she beamed at him with a warm and friendly smile, "I'm glad you're here, Tsuna-kun!" she turned around to face him properly, "Do you know anything about basketball?"
Tsuna gulped, "K-kind of. My u-uncle told me about w-what basketball does and the pl-players roles." He answered softly.
The female coach just nodded her head and tilted her head, "It's a good start. Basic but you'll learn along once you've watched the game." Tsuna blinked; just like what his uncle told him last night, "While you will be learning, you'll also have to do your job as a manager."
"W-wait… yo-you mean I'm a-a manager?" Tsuna was bewilderment, he thought he was supposed to do a test or something to become a manager, not just hand him the job right away.
Aida's lip twitches as she narrowed her eyes with slightly annoyed, "Oh, well… I have gotten some interested from others that want to be a manager, however, to my disappointment. They are not interested in a job, they are more of interested in boys and I don't want any distraction." She clutched her clipboard as Tsuna gulped nervously, "So, you are the one and only candidate that is serious about this role." She said with a tight smile. Plus, she has soft spot for cute kitten look-alike small brunette boy.
Tsuna sweatdropped, "A-ah…" he honestly doesn't know what to say about that, but he is somewhat happy that he is now part of the club, for the first time!
The female coach glanced over when she heard boys walked out of the dressing room and Tsuna tilted his head with curiosity. Aida explained her plan for the try-out and one of the first years blinked at the coach, "What? A mini-game?"
"I can't believe we're playing the upperclassmen already." One of the first years said with shocked.
"Do you remember the record from last year they told us about during our first meeting? They went to the finals just in their first year."
"Are you serious?"
"That's not normal."
Tsuna was amazed when he learned that, 'And this school is still new…' he mused then he saw Kagami smirked smugly.
"There's nothing to be afraid of. It's always better to have stronger opponents than weak ones. Let's go." Kagami said with confidence.
Tsuna glanced at the female coach who smiles with interested as she held onto her pink whistle. The tiny brunette then glanced back at the court with curious. This will be his first time to watch the mini-game of basketball in real life.
The whistle heard once the female coach threw the basketball in the middle of the court and back off away from the players. Tsuna watched Kagami jumped and slammed the ball behind him. One of the yellow players whose Kagami's team caught the ball and passed to his teammate. Then passed it to Kagami who caught it with one hand and jumped over to the hoop with an insane dunk.
Tsuna's eyes wide in stunned at the raw power from Kagami. He watched the game with amazed whenever Kagami does his own dunk power. For some reason, Tsuna couldn't help it but sees this tall player is covered with the barely noticeable flame of red whenever Kagami dunk the ball through the hoop. 'Amazing… he reminds me of something… like… a furious storm that never rests.' Tsuna mused as he glanced at the scores, the first years scored eleven while the second years score eight.
Then his doe-eyes glanced back at the game and noticed the second years are blocking Kagami, they were double-teaming Kagami even though he doesn't have the ball. Tsuna continued watching with intense. It was a total turntable once second years showed their skills that left stunned to the young tony manager once again.
After few shots through the hoops, the scored are now fifteen for first years and thirty-one for second years. 'Sempais are amazing.' Tsuna mused with awed.
Then Tsuna noticed Kagami grabbed one of the first year's shirt and lifted up easily. "Heeiii!" Tsuna squealed with shocked when he saw it. As he was about to panic but paused when he saw Kuroko walked up to Kagami and hit Kagami's back of his knee with his knee.
"Please calm down." Kuroko monstrous said with blank eyes after Kagami dropped the poor player. Kagami shook with rage and slowly turned his head back at Kuroko with pissed off.
"You bastard…" Kagami's smirk with irritated and the first years paled with comedic horror.
Aida frowned at the first years who are making a ruckus as Kagami is shouting at Kuroko who stared at him with indifferent. She glanced at Tsuna who is watching them with worried and nervous. "Tsuna-kun…" he glanced up at the female coach with wondering, "…stop him." she watched Tsuna paled and sweats with fear. He darts his eyes at the first years' players and back at the female coach with serious eyes. Tsuna gulped loudly and shakily nodded his head, he awkwardly walked toward them nervously.
Aida's heart torn slightly, she felt like she is sending a tiny defenseless kitty to the pack of wolves. Her eyes scanned the first years' players until it widens when she noticed a light blue-hair boy. She stared at him baffled, how long was he in the court?
Tsuna gulped hard once he arrived at the group of first years, "A-ano…" he softly called out the players, but they were too busy to hold the large tiger back from emotionless blue-eyes boy. "…ano…" Tsuna attempted to get their attention weakly but it was useless.
"Kagami! Calm down!"
"Seriously!"
Tsuna mentally whines as he tugged his hair, 'Can I really do this?' then he noticed Kagami swing his fist at Kuroko but he narrowly dodged it.
"Heeeiii!" a girly shrieked heard that captured the first years. They halted and turned their heads at Tsuna who bend down with his hands covered his head. His eyes were tightly shut, but when he heard the noise has stopped, he opened his eyes and glanced up nervously. "A-ano…" he stood up and gulped, "P-please d-don't fight." He nearly whimpered when Kagami glared at him. "…please…" Tsuna is shivering with fright.
An uncomfortable eerie silence surrounded in the court until Kagami clicked his tongue and relaxes his muscles. The players slowly released the large tiger and back away with cautioned. Kagami crossed his arms and closed his eyes. "Fine." He murmured.
Tsuna felt relief as a soft yet bright smile appeared on his face, "T-thank you!" he hasn't realized Aida was mentally squealing at the cuteness of the tiny manager's smiles.
After a few minutes, the game was back on and Kuroko asked for the ball to pass. When one of the players passed to ball to the blue-eyed boy and Tsuna could've sworn he saw the barely noticeable flame of indigo surrounded Kuroko. Then suddenly, the ball is caught across the court by a player and shot the ball through the hoop to add another scoring point.
Tsuna blinked owlishly, '…whoa… it's like… it creates throughout of nowhere from the mist and left others bewildering…' he mused with impressed and awed. He continued watching the ball passed all different first years players and shot the ball through the hoop to add more points. It continued over and over that Tsuna couldn't help but think that Kuroko used his low presence with advantage to passes the ball to his teammates. 'Misdirection… invisible… unbelievable…' he glanced at a blue-eyed boy who is panted from slight exhausted and sweats covered his forehead. Tsuna watches Kuroko passes the ball flawlessly.
'Kagami-kun has raw power and Kuroko-kun has low presence… is this basketball?' Tsuna with astonished at these players' skills. Then he glanced at the scoreboard, the first year has thirty-six and the second year has thirty-seven. It's a one-point difference.
Tsuna turned his glanced back to the game and watched Kuroko caught the ball and ran to the hoop while others are cheering him. When Kuroko reached the hoop, he shot the ball but bounce the rim as the first years stared at it in dumbfounded. However, once the ball was in the air, Kagami caught it one hand and shouted, "That's why I hate the weak!" he dunked the ball. "You have to make the shot, dumbass!" he snapped at small smirking Kuroko with knowing eyes.
Tsuna tilted his head while he has been observing, 'Kuroko-kun knew Kagami-kun would catch the ball and dunk it. Somehow, he knew that. But how?' Tsuna thought with confusion, interested, and awed.
For once, his uncle is right, basketball is an amazing sport and for once, for once… Tsuna is genuinely interested in learning this sport and looking forward to it.
