There it is. The Sea. Its cool waters come up in waves upon the shore roaring with its rough voice. A gull flying overhead joins the ocean's song with its call, as it rides the breeze. A single white elven boat sits at the dock, awaiting a one-way journey. Everything is so calm. Yet, when I first came here, I couldn't feel its peace. Back then, years ago, I could only feel its sorrow. The Grey Havens is the name of this solemn place and rightly so, not only for the grey sea, but also for the many farewells this place witnesses.
This was once a place of great sorrow to me, but now I feel a joy stronger than I have ever felt in a long time. I am going to join my master. I am going to see Mr. Frodo again. What more is there for me to do? After our travels, I married the most beautiful lass in the Shire. I had 13 children, one who I named in honor of Mr. Frodo. I served as mayor of the Shire. Yes, my time in Middle-earth has ended. It is time to follow my master.
The gull cries out again in its loud voice, beckoning me to board the ship. Slowly, I do so. I have never felt comfortable in boats, but this one is different. This elven ship, destined to forever leave Middle-earth, is the vessel that shall bring me to Mr. Frodo.
The elven ship gently slips out of the harbor. Light glitters on the waves like diamonds. I look towards the West and my destination. I breathe in the sea's salty air. A joy fills my heart like I never felt before.
I give a last look to the land I am leaving. The dock is growing smaller, but I can still see the gull, circling in the sky. It cries out its farewell then flies out of view. Even though I am leaving what I have called home for all my life, I find I can not be sad. All is beautiful and peaceful. I hear the elven voices singing.
Farewell, Middle-earth! I shall no longer walk upon your shores. The time is indeed ripe for my departure.
