Title: Drabble: Not Tonight
Author's Note: I agree with WeirdLittleStories' theory that, with a Human mother and Earth Ambassador father, Spock's knowledge of Earth English expressions and idioms must be more complete than he lets on. But the character trait is established in the shows, and it is endearing and fun-so, why not?
Summary: The joys of navigating Spock's knowledge (or lack thereof) of English language expressions.

Kirk's words landed, plop, in the middle of one of those 7-minute silences which occur in all conversations. This silence, however, continued as eyes widened and jaws dropped.
Kirk's palm smacked his forehead, his smile rueful as he surveyed the Rec Room.
"I can't believe I said that. Chess, people. Chess. Get your minds out of the gutter."
Relieved laughter burst out around them, redoubling at Spock's look of incomprehension.
"Captain?…"
Kirk sighed, considering how to explain the euphemism.
"…what does avoiding sex have to do with a channel for carrying off rainwater?"
