MODERN AU

Hiccup looked out the window into the rain. Astrid had left without leaving her number, saying that she needed to clear her mind. He couldn't believe after all they had been through, she had left.

But, he had let her go, figuring she had gone back to Austin, Texas, since she talked about it all the time.

1 Year Later

Astrid sighed as she dialed Hiccup's phone number, hoping that he hadn't changed it. But all she got was three rings and an answering machine.

"Hey, this is Hiccup. If you're calling about the car, I sold it. If this is Tuesday night, I'm bowling. If you've got something to sell you're wasting your time, I'm not buying it. If it's anybody else, wait for the tone, you know what to do. And P.S. if this is Astrid, I still love you," The answering machine said and then there was a beep.

The cellphone fell onto the floor. Astrid heard it, but she couldn't believe it. What kind of man would hang on that long? What kind of love that must be. Of course, she knew it was Hiccup. She knew he would wait for her. He always did.

3 Days later...

Astrid called him again, not knowing what she'd say, but she heard another three rings and then...

"Hey, you've reached Hiccup Haddock. If it's Friday night I'm at the ball game. And first thing Saturday if it doesn't rain, I'm headed out to my Dad's and I'll be gone all weekend long. But I'll call you back when I get home on Sunday afternoon. And P.S. if this is Astrid, I still love you," The answering machine said this time.

She groaned and left her number, but nothing else.

She waited by the phone on Sunday afternoon, nervous about him calling her back.

Hiccup had listened to the message and was surprised when he heard Astrid's voice. He quickly called her back and he heard...

"If you're calling about my heart it's still yours, I should've listened to it a little more. If I had it wouldn't have taken me so to know where I belong," He sighed, thinking it was an answering machine. But then...

"And by the way Hiccup, this isn't a machine you're talking to. Can't you tell this is Astrid and I still love you," Astrid said and Hiccup smiled.

"I still love you too," He said and then the two talked for the rest of the day, making plans to meet up.
