The Dragon, the Wolf, the Snake and the Unicorn
There was once a group of great animals who kept the order of the land among the lesser creatures. The Wolf was wise and could settle the lesser creature's arguments and sentence them to punishment for their crimes. The Unicorn was pure, kind and beautiful, showing the creatures compassion and proving that even in darkness there was always light. The Snake was smooth skinned and could weave and manipulate the minds of the creatures, keeping them from harming themselves. The last of the great animals was the Dragon. The Dragon was magnificent, striking fear into the lesser creatures and punishing those who committed the worst crimes. Together they kept the world in harmony.
One day the Snake fell in love with the Unicorn. The Snake confessed its love but the Unicorn could not love it back.
"I am flattered Snake but I cannot be in love with you," The Snake was disheartened but still believed that the Unicorn could love it. The Snake sent the Unicorn a present of fine jewels and silks.
"I am flattered Snake but I cannot be in love with you," The Unicorn repeated, sending the Snake's present to the lesser creatures. The Snake was again disheartened but still believed that the Unicorn could love it. The Snake sent the Unicorn flowers and sweet smelling scents but yet again the Unicorn refused, "I am flattered Snake but I cannot be in love with you," The Unicorn again sent the Snakes present to the lesser creatures.
The Snake was furious, it refused to believe that the Unicorn did not love it. The Snake decided to use its trickery this time. It visited the Unicorn.
"Hello Unicorn, how are you today?"
"I am well Snake, are you still after my affections?"
"No," Snake laughed, slithering up onto the Unicorn's back. "I know that you cannot love me now," The Snake rested it's head on the Unicorn's shoulder and smelt a wonderful aroma. The Snake couldn't resist its call and bit into the Unicorn's neck. The Unicorn gasped and choked for air, the Snake's venom slowly creeping through its body. The Unicorn gasped its last breath and died, spilling silver blood from its wound. The Snake was distraught, only just realising that it had killed the creature it loved.
The Snake ran to the Wolf and the Dragon, begging forgiveness. The Dragon howled in anguish, for the Unicorn was its one true love. That is why the Unicorn could not love the Snake. The Dragon blew his mighty flames over the Snake, scorching away the smooth over skin and leaving only rough, dry skin underneath. The wise Wolf sentenced the Snake.
"This is a crime that cannot be forgiven. You have killed the light and beauty in this land and the Dragons true love. You and your future children will be sentenced to live with the lesser creatures, forever distrusted and cursed."
This left the lesser creatures with only the Wolf and the Dragon, they could only be sentenced and punished for their crimes with no compassion or guide. The order of the land had been broken and would never be mended due to the stubborn Snake.
A/N: Thank you for reading my take on a fairy tale from Beedle and the Bard. This is just a simple one shot I wrote late at night so sorry if it is filled with horrible gramatic errors. If you have the time please write a review.
