Genji Shimada had never thought before that he would miss his old life. But sitting in the small garden in the shrine of the Shambali monk's shrine. The small garden was his favourite meditating place. It was a small central hub with a few shrubs and trees, surrounded by small stone fences which gave him privacy. Today while he was breathing in the beautiful landscape, he heard chirping. In early spring, A small family sparrows would make their nest here and stay until the babies were big enough to fly on their own. Genji had discovered them when a smaal sparrow fell from the branch, and the mother was chirping nervously. This year, it triggered memories of when he was a young child:
Flashback "GENJI! GET YOUR LAZY BUTT DOWN HERE!" Yelled Genji's brother, Hanzo Shimada:"DO YOU WANT DAFIKUS (Daifuku is a glutinous rice cake stuffed with sweet filling, most commonly anko, sweetened red bean paste made from azuki beans ) OR NOT?". Genji stumbled from his bed, blasted the door open and charged down the stairs, yelling:"DON'T EAT ALL OF THEM AGAIN LIKE LAST TIME!" Then, he tripped an stumbled down the stairs. Getting up quickly, he ran to the kamado in the Shimada castle, threw the door open. Panting he pointed at Hanzo with a accusing glare:"You're eating them all again!" His mother gave a gentle laugh and handed Genji a little Kotasku bag full of Daifukus and smiled:"Have fun at the arcade, Genji." Hanzo rolled his eyes but continued to eat his bowl Dafikus while appearing to be writing a letter. Genji thanked his mother and grabbed his shoes and ran to the nearby arcade, 16-bit hero, where he spent most of his time. But that day, he also learned something terrible when he got back home. His mother was crying and Hanzo had locked himself in his room. He went over to check with his mother. She handed him a letter, and it said that his father was killed on his "business" trip. Genji was in a state of shock. He had loved his father, no matter how much of a criminal he was. Fighting back tears, he read on, the rest of the letters said that Hanzo was now the leader of Shimada Clan, therefore Genji will now have to take on more responsibilities and he was required to be Hanzo's right-hand man.
2 days later, his mother committed suicide. Hanzo blamed Genji, and with all the added pressure on Hanzo, the two lost control and fought. In the fight, Hanzo struck Genji down, leaving his crippled body on the ground as he ran away from the clan. A few days later, Overwatch found him and brought him back to life, this time as a cyborg.
End Flashback Genji sighed at the fought of Dr. Angela Ziegler. He missed her greatly for in his short time in Overwatch they've developed an blossoming friendship that grew into secret romantic feelings. Genji had sent her a letter on the holidays, inviting her to Nepal, to which she replied that she will come in March when she have some free time. He had been hoping that it will be soon. With a sigh, he stood up and walked back up to the village.
