Disclaimer: I don't own pokemon.

A/N: Here's a little one-shot of Ash and Misty realizing something during a small conversation. AAML.

That was you!?

Ash Ketchum walked up the few steps leading to the front porch of his mother's two story home. He quickly opened the white front door and Mr. Mime looked up in surprise. When he registered just who it was he ran into the kitchen to alert Delia and tell her that her son was finally home.

"Hey honey, welcome home!" Delia Ketchum warmly greeted her seventeen year old son at the door.

"Hey mom",Ash said as he went to hug the older women who was now much shorter than he was.

"Hey Ash"

"Pikachupi!"

"Aww, I missed you too pikachu"

Ash Ketchum stood there mildly surprised to see his best friend of seven years at his house to greet him. He took a moment to give the red haired gym leader a once over. He noted he towered over her now by a good six inches or so. They haven't seen each other in person in so long. Though, they did see each other through a video phone screen each week but, seeing someone in person is ten times better. Continuing on with his observation, he noticed she filled out more and had wonderful curves. Her ripped dark blue skinny jeans fit tightly over aforementioned curves, she wore a yellow fitted shirt along with pink hightops. Her ginger hair was out and reached all the way past her mid back, with tousled waves making her look irresistable to him. All in all, the master in trainer loved what he saw. But, of course he did, he was in love with her except she didn't know of that fact, yet atleast.

"Hey Mist", Ash greeted her a big smile and she smiled warnly in return.

"How was the travel back home? Oh and congrats on making second place in the Kalos league Ash, you did really great!"

"Thanks Mist. Well, the travel back home wasn't too bad. I'm just really hungry to be honest"

"Well then it's a good thing dinner is ready huh?" Mrs. Ketchum called out from the kitchen. She over heard the small conversation and knowing how hungry her son would be, she made sure to have food ready for her forever hungry son.

As Misty walked into the kitchen behind Ash she too gave him a once over. He was wearing dark blue jeans with a blue and white short sleeved collared jacket and red hightops to complete his look. She blushed when she realized she was staring but glad that he couldn't see her.

After eating a feast fit for twenty, Delia and Mimey began the cleanup while Ash offered to go on a walk with Misty. It was a late July evening, the streetlights have been on for an hour already. The hot summer sun was already set while the moon took its place. The night sky in Pallet was always so beautiful to look at, it was a nice place to see all the constellations, all the stars shone so brightly.

"So, where's this place you were talking about anyway?" Misty asked Ash curiously.

During dinner he mentioned that when he comes home after every journey now, he goes to sit in his secret spot. He offered to take Misty to show her. His mom smiled at this because she knows for a fact that Misty has feelings for her son and Delia also noticed that Ash hasn't taken his eyes off the girl since he saw her that day. Plus, he would always blush at the mention of her name whenever he called home and spoke to his mom. So she purposefully sent the teens out on a walk hoping that one of them will make a move.

"It's just up the road. I like to come here to think and get pumped about another adventure you know. Plus, I've been going to spot since I was a kid",Ash answered with a smile as he pointed straight ahead of them.

"Wow, that lake is so beautiful. I didn't know there was a place like this here" Misty said in awe.

There was a small lake hidden in a few apple trees. There were some water pokemon swimming around, the water sparkled and the reflection of the night sky rippled as the pokemon swam.

"Yeah. It's cool because not many people know about it. My uh, my dad used to take me here and teach me about pokemon" Ash said slightly stumbling on his words as he motioned his crush to siton the grass next to him.

"Y-you're dad? You've never mentioned him before." Misty said cautiously as she took her spot on his left.

Taking in a deep breath,"Yeah. I mean he left when I was small and I never heard from the guy since. I just don't talk about him you know. My mom was the one who raised me and besides Professor Oak was more of a father figure to me, especially since he up and left."

"I understand, makes sence why your mom and he seem so close."

"Hey Mist? W-what about your parents?"

Looking at him with her head tilted seemingly in thought,"Well to be honest I don't talk about them because they died in a boating accident when I was four"

"That's when my dad left."

"Huh. What do you mean?"

"Oh, I mean my dad left when I was four."

Misty smiled,"In a way I guess we have something sort of in common."

He smiled back at her.

"But, Ash you know what's odd. When I was little I had a friend who used to come and visit me. He was my age and he would come and play every so often. But, once my parent's died, I never seen him again."

Ash's eyebrows shot up,"Funny you say that Mist because my dad would take me to a few places because he knew a lot of people. But yeah, I made some friends and there was a little girl who I honestly don't remember her name or anything but, I never seen her again."

After a few minutes of silence there was a slight breeze that passed through. Both teens just sitting and taking in the beauty and calmness of the serenity that is Pallet Town.

"But, you know I do remember once when me and that boy played outside in my yard with a ball. Out of no where a bug type fell out of a tree and I was so scared. But, he was so brave and he got the bug aw-"

"Wait! He saved you from a bug? Was it a caterpie?

"Yeah, how'd you...Oh my, y-you. You're that boy!?"

Both teens shocked at this new news.

"So you are that girl. Huh, go figure. Yeah, it does make sence because after my dad left I never got to her again so yeah, wow haha."

Misty's eyes were wide eyed taking in everything. Memories flooded back and it was ironic how they just happened to be childhood friends.

"Wow, Ash. I-I guess it really was meant for us to meet and become friends, well again I guess. Wow. It makes sence why we never realized this because I never once met you're mom and I'm pretty sure she would've remembered me haha."

Ash smiled at Misty because it made his feelings for the girl sore higher. They had something special, that much was for certain. Palms growing sweaty and his heart bearing rapidly agains his strong chest. He took in a deep breath, it was now or never.

"Um Mist?"

Turning her face to look at him, giving him her full attention. His breath hitched, she looked so amazing. The way how the waters reflection of the natural lighting hit her face and catching her cerluean colored eyes made him melt.

"Yeah Ash."

Rushing his words out due to nervousness,"I-I really like you Misty, a lot. A real lot you're so beautiful, and I-"

Pressing a finger to his lips to silence the teen,"I like you too, Ash."

She stared into his warm chocolate brown eyes. As if their was some magnetic field pulling them together they both slowly leaned in. Perfectly in sync their eyes fluttered closed and their lips connected. It was a quick kiss that lasted only a few seconds. They pulled away slightly only to reconnect, this time for a more intense second kiss.

Leaning his forehead onto Misty's he whispered,"Wow."

It was loud enough for her to hear as she placed a kiss on his cheek and smiled brightly at him. She grabbed his gloved hand and pulled him up. The new couple having made a revelation and it was a great start to a relationship that was destined to happen one day. Having know realized they were childhood friends, it made things much much more special.

When they reached the house they both told Delia of their new relationship status and told her of their revalation. After looking through old photos and a phone call to Daisy, they found more pieces to the missing links. There it was in an old album identicle pictures of a very young Ash and Misty holding hands.
