Ice Dawn: Toushiro/Momo

Hinamori Momo stood there, tears falling fiercely from her eyes. She was trapped behind a wall of ice that had been summoned by her best friend's bankai. Hitsugaya Toushiro was panting, covered in blood, holding weakly onto his sword… nearly defeated in battle. The fight had progressed all night, with dawn beginning to break, shining on the red-stained ice. He roared, and launched forward at his opponent with the little strength he had left.

Her heart raced, honestly… Momo couldn't remember ever being more afraid in her life. Shiro-chan, her Shiro-chan… was losing. Was… dying. Toushiro had yelled at her not to interfere, despite her desperate cries for him to listen to her. "SHIRO-CHAN," she screamed again. Her knees gave out, and Momo fell hard, against the ice clutching at her heart with both hands. It was breaking, into tiny crystal pieces. "TOUSHIRO!" Her voice rang against the ice covered battle field, but the captain did not give any sign of hearing her. Metal clanged against metal, and Hyourinmaru went flying across the field into the frozen pillars. Momo could hear him yell in agony, as his white hair, and captain robe was marred with red. "TOUSHIRO-KUN," she cried again. Beating relentlessly on the ice wall blocking her from him, she continued screaming his name.

The light of the sun shined brighter, causing a magical twinkle to be cast off the ice. Toushiro lay there, bloody, and beaten… with his fortress around him, glittering. I can never help him. I only hurt him. I've never been able to save him. He's dead. Because of me. "TOUSHIRO-KUN. PLEASE! DON'T LEAVE ME!" The boy's head turned towards her, and he smiled… his lips formed, what could only be her name, and his eyes closed. "TOUSHIRO," she shrieked.

The ice slowly melted, and she sprinted to his body, sliding and flinging herself at him. His captain's robe was ripped and stained with crimson blood, his hair and limbs in disarray as he lay there. "Toushiro… this can't be real. It's a nightmare. YOU CAN'T LEAVE ME! You're too strong for this. You AND Hyourinmaru. Open your eyes Toushiro-kun, look at your beautiful ice. WAKE UP SHIRO-CHAN!" Momo sat in the same spot for a moment or two, her tears falling on the lifeless body of her best friend, before standing up. She approached Hyourinmaru, and lifted it gently. More tears fell, and she held the sword close to her. "I know… you loved him too." Slowly, Momo unfolded Toushiro's fingers, and placed Hyourinmaru in them tightly. With a shuddering sigh, she fell onto the ice next to Toushiro, holding onto whatever she could. His arm was wrapped around hers, and her face was buried in his chest. There was no reassuring heartbeat that told her she would be safe, no familiar voice telling her to get off. "This isn't you Shiro-chan… tell me you want me away, tell me… anything. Just please. Talk to me Shiro-chan. WHY WON'T YOU ANSWER," Momo sobbed.

The dawn does not always bring warmth, and relief. It was cold, the ice was still partially frozen and Momo hadn't left her position for an hour. A constant steam of tears and begging flowed from her, Momo refused to accept his death. "Tou… shiro, wake up… I LOVE YOU TOUSHIRO!"
