The view of the city was gorgeous. I've seen Chicago go through decades of change while i've stayed the same. Stuck at twenty-five, forever young, never moving forward. Its not all bad though, its actually kind of nice. Almost...

"Bellllaaa", my best friend Alice sang. She teetered into my office a silly grin plastered on her face.

" yes?", i asked cautiously, giving her my attention.

She stood in the door frame wiggling her eyebrows suggestively, her small frame clad in a black pencil skirt and white blouse.

" There's a man, in the lobby asking for you. And let me tell you he looks like a mannly man", she said holding her hands apart suggestively.

" A man. How intriguing", i replied losing interest in the conversation. I didn't date so.. it must be a client.

" Oh yes, a hot man, tall pale and handsome man", she said practically jumping in her stilettos. How she wore those I had no idea. " He looks so sophisticated. A bit older but who cares. When was the last time a man has come asking for you? Let me answer that never."

" Alice, just let him in or get out of my office", i said getting frustrated.

" Fine, fine. Don't get your panties in a jumble", she huffed exiting the room.

" Oh and his name his Carlisle by the way."

Impossible. There was no way. Carlisle was...no i'm sure there's plenty of people with that name. I'm overreacting. Nonetheless my throat constricted and my non beating heart felt like it was going to explode or implode.

When a knock sounded at my door i jumped in my seat. I gathered on the nerve i had and smoothed my navy skirt as i walked to the door. I opened the frosted glass door slowly my eyes half closed and took a deep breath.
