Beauty

Author's Note: Oh, how I have missed my prettiest little Selvine pairing. This is totally random, but a Selvine was the first fic I ever wrote. I do hope you like this, it's pure nostalgia for me.

He called her beautiful; she knew he was lying.
And it wasn't like Selphie was so horrendously ugly. But she was by no means beautiful. She was, in her own words, life's chorus girl: cute as can be until someone else walked by. Then she's forgettable.
But don't misunderstand, Selphie was quite confident. She knew she was cute, smart, nice, with a lovely sense of humor. Not beautiful.
So, when Irvine, waving at her bitter sweetly as he walked backwards away, called, "See you later, beautiful," she knew he was lying.
She knew that, no matter how beautiful she was or was not, he'd never see her again. Irvine Kinneas, Hyne's gift to women, was gone for good.
Just about broke her heart, truth be told.
Coming home to what she expected to be an empty apartment, only to see him standing there, hat in his hands twirling nervously, that was too much.
The way he half-smiled at her sheepishly, when she realized he couldn't leave her, the way he kissed her agonizingly sweetly, that was much too much.
He called her beautiful; maybe it was true.
