A Ticking Clock

A/N: So I saw this on tumblr forever ago - the idea of a universe where everyone has a countdown on their wrists to the moment they meet their soulmate, and I saw it again today and it made me think of Hollow and Lini. This is the first thing I've properly written in a while, so I'm sorry if it sucks. Be gentle. Love, Hatter 3

Lini looked down at her counter, and tapped her foot impatiently. Waiting for her suitcase to get off the carousel was taking even longer than usual, and her counter was ticking lower and lower with every second that passed. In 4 minutes and 39 seconds precisely, she was going to meet her soulmate. Her pale green eyes flicked across the luggage passing in front of her, and finally she spotted hers - god, she hoped that her timer ran out with Aaron, otherwise the next two weeks were gonna suck.

The blue-haired girl lifted the bag off of the moving belt and moved towards the door, her heart pounding in her chest as she followed the signs directing her to the concourse and exit of the airport. 3 minutes, 24 seconds. Please, let it be him.

Since the advent of online dating and the increasing regularity with which people found their significant others through the internet, there had been copious amounts of studies done into whether soulmates who found each other online had to wait until they met in person for their counters to show zero, or if it was possible to cheat the system. As far as scientists could understand, the timer only counted meetings in person, and something fascinating had been discovered - if you tried to cheat and arrange your meeting to coincide with the end of your countdown, the time would change. When they'd planned Lini's visit, neither had mentioned that their timer was due to run out, and neither of their countdowns had altered in the slightest. Lini hoped that was a good sign.

Her phone buzzed in her pocket and she pulled it out, opening the text from her boyfriend.

Are you out of passport security yet? I'm waiting out the front of the airport x

She felt a grin spread across her face and she tapped out a quick reply.

Just got my bag, I'm coming!x

Fuck, why weren't these signs more clear?! Lini anxiously looked around, trying to find the exit as her counter steadily counted the seconds until she met her soulmate.

45 seconds.

Finally, she caught sight of the door leading to the outside and hurried over to it, pushing through the crowds of people. They understood; there was only one reason someone would be so desperate to get somewhere, especially someone so young.

12 seconds left, and she was outside. No sign of him.

Frantically, Lini walked slightly further out to try and find Aaron.

There, the unruly mop of brown hair - she couldn't wait to dye it for him - and tall, slender frame that marked out Aaron. He was facing away from her but turning, phone in hand…

As the counter ticked over to 0 years, 0 days, 0 hours, 0 minutes, 0 seconds, blue eyes met green and Aaron ran to her. His eyes flicked down to her wrist, the clock mirroring his own.

"I knew it," he said, and pulled her into a kiss.

A/N I don't know... Not sure I'm happy with this but it's been so long. Do people want more of this kind of thing? Let me know pls
