The Injection

To my Guest reviewer. I haven't taken this from another story, and I can prove it with copies of comments left to the group which show that this story was posted BEFORE the other one, and that the other writer actually commented that she liked this story. Still, if you do want, feel free to report me for Plagiarism.
"Okay, Dan," Bergman warned as he unwrapped the needle and pulled the cap off. "This might hurt a bit."
"It's alright." Danny replied as he steeled himself for the jab. He had never liked receiving injections but accepted that they were a necessary requirement for good health. Given his profession – and his amazing luck – he wasn't going to tempt fate.
"Need to get everything ready correctly," the physician spoke aloud as he tapped the syringe with his finger, squeezing a small amount of the solution within out to get rid of the air bubbles. "This is one of those where if you don't get it right it's going to hurt like hell."
The Second-In-Command averted his eyes and focused his clear blue gaze onto the poster on the wall of the heart. The longer he sat there with his shirtsleeve rolled up, the more apprehension he felt. Still, he was determined not to let any of it show. He had been shot, stabbed, thrown off cliffs and left for dead – compared to those things, how much was a measly little jab going to hurt?
"There we go," Bergman announced once he had prepared the syringe to his liking. "Except for a small prick, you practically won't feel a thing."
"But you said it might hurt." Danny griped.
"That's if you tense up too much," Doc replied. He sighed as he felt Dan stiffen. "Relax, I've done this before hundreds of times. Think of the benefits."
It was with no small measure of self-control that the younger man avoided snarking out loud. The truth was, he wouldn't need a tetanus booster if it weren't for the fact that he kept getting shot or stabbed. The criminal element on the Islands weren't the type to sterilize their equipment before they used it – if they did, he wouldn't need to be put through this agony on a semi-regular basis. "Yeah," he groused. "Knowing my luck something will go wrong and I'll end up being carted off to Emergency in excruciating agony."
"No, you have to be adequately bleeding all over the place for it to work," Doc quipped. "Besides, no one has ever died from an injection into a muscle. Stop thinking such morbid thoughts."
The younger man flinched by managed to otherwise remain still as he felt something ghost the skin on his arm. The sensation was fleeting but it didn't hurt, in fact it was rather ticklish. Turning his head to look at Bergman, he asked. "Was that it?"
"Nope." Bergman replied. "I just swabbed the area with some iodine to clean it. Now relax. Here comes the injection."
Dan's face blanched when he saw the size of the needle and how pointy and sharp it looked. He swallowed the lump in his throat – there was no way that it was NOT going to hurt!
