Just open your eyes
It was a quiet night in busy Manhattan. The moon was whole and the light it gave of shun into their bedroom through the crack in the curtains. Not much sound was made until…
"N-n-n-o…Castle…Don't" she cried out. Her body was in a sweat and she was frantically tossing and turning in the sheets that she laid on.
He jolted up from the bed searching the room for her. He went into panic mode.
"Kate!" he called out. No response.
He waited another moment until he heard more of her ramblings. "Castle…Stay with me…Don't go." Her voice was on edge. She sounded desperate, like she had no other choice.
He clicked. She was having a nightmare.
"Kate" he barely whispered as he lightly shook her body attempting to wake her from her current slumber. After he once again whispered her name, she tossed away the sheets quickly and sat upright. But she didn't open her eyes. It was like she was afraid to see that her dream had become reality.
"Castle!" she called out before sinking back down into the mattress. She reached out, searching for him. She let out a breath she was unaware she was holding when she came into contact with his hand. In the pitch blackness they found each other. Castle pulled her closer to him engulfing her with his arms. She didn't flinch. She just wanted to be close to him. She wanted to feel safe.
"Kate. Open your eyes. I'm right here in front of you." Castle gently caressed her head, soothing her. Her breath were quite rapid and her heart rate had certainly increased. She was in panic mode.
Her voice was barley a whisper but she knew that she should provide him with some sort of explanation to her sudden outburst. "You were gone. Shot. I was too late. You were gone." Her voice began to quiver before a few tears escape. Castle quickly wiped them away with the pad of his thumb,
Her eyes were still closed, she still was scared that she was going to wake up and he was gone. And that this was all a dream. A figment of her imagination.
"Just open your eyes Kate. I'm right here with you."
Her eyes gently fluttered open. She sighed of relief once she saw the smiling face looking down upon her. He placed a chaste kiss upon her lips to which she engulfed fully.
"Kate, I will always love you. Now and forever."
Kate let out a shaky breath. "I love you too, Rick."
Rick held her even tighter at her admission. Kate nuzzled her head into his chest feeling contented to just be here with him. She finally closed her eyes once again, knowing that within his arms she was truly safe.
"I'll never leave you, Kate."
